DIY - Transgo VB Kit

I just installed (with the help of a friend) the Transgo Shift Kit. Installed one on his car (2006 Coupe) and right after installed one on my 2003 Sedan.

I can now say that I have installed both versions of the VB

I'll post up a video soon. I love fast shifts.

For those of you who have a 5AT, this is about 10-20x better than the ground wires. Its really no comparison.

They were on sale at Summit for $230 + shipping. You should go out and get one!!

I might be able to help install as well.

For some pictures of what it is...This is on a 2006 G35 Coupe (TCU inside Tranny) 2003-2004.5 will look different.

Get the tranny oil pan off...this is what you see (20 bolts and 2 clips come off to get the pan off)
You'll get about 5 qt out when you drain. Another qt or so is in the pan still.

Keep it all organized. I didnt have enough baggies, but used those for the first couple letters of bolts. Label A - L

Remove the 12 bolts holding the VB in - 5 A, 6 B, and 1 C. There are also 4 clips you need to remove. Depending on what tranny you have (TCU in/out) they are all 4 visible OR 2 of them are on the top of the VB and you have to lower it some to release those.
When you remove the last bolt or two holding the VB in, you'll start draining out the torque converter. You'll get another 2 qt or so from there.

VB Out - Bottom
Bottom side of the VB - here you can see the filter. Remove 14 bolts holding filter on. 3-E, 8 -A, 3-D

Remove the 6 bolts holding the manual shifter onto the VB. 1-G, 1-F, 2-H, 2-C
Remove manual VB and pay attention to where the check ball and springs are.
Remove the 14 bolts holding the lower to the upper VB. 8-H, 5-C, 1-A

Remove the 5 bolts holding top to bottom, making sure to remove the bolt labeled A last. 1-A, 2-I, 2-J (J bolts are reinstalled first as alignment bolts during reassembly)

The VB kit is too hard to show the detail of what happens...

Reassemble opposite of assembly. During assembly I made sure to clean each surface of the VB that was possible to clean.

Awesome. I really want this on my G so that I can utilize manual mode a little more...right now it's pretty useless cuz of the lazy upshifts. I wish someone would post a DIY vid of this to get a sense of how hard it would be.

Nice job. Let us know about normal driveability with regards to shift firmness, install hurdles, etc.

There's a DIY on the board for this already. Lots of parts and pieces but it looks doable.

Marcus, with your gears and this mod.....chirp!!!

TB, what are some of the difference between both kits if you don't mind me asking? Also how's the ride and drive between both year Gs? Do they both have neck snapping shifts like some people describe? Is one vb better than the other one?
