I'll skip right to the point. Should there be some kind of spring nut keeping the axle nut from comming loose? The cotter pin is great for keeping the nut from falling off but the nut still comes loose. I've seen it on other car's axles but don't know what it's called.

no our car doesnt have it. well at least my 03 G doesnt. i had the same problem. get a torque wrench, spread some locking gasket sealant thing or whatever over the nut and the thread and then tighten it. after i did this, i havent had a problem with it getting loose again

 

There is nothing that holds it in other than loc-tite and the cotter pin. My hub nut actually came loose about a month back and the only way I figured it out was that my car was all over the road. I jacked it up for an inspection and could actually jiggle the rear wheel. tightened her down and threw some extra loc-tite to keep it from happening again...
