Getting a new tranny

So, the dealership advised me that the synchros weren't lining up and that I would get a new tranny. I have about 25,000 miles and they advised me that I would probably need a new clutch, which would be at my own cost. What do you guys think? Should I go for it, should I get an aftermarket clutch (is fo, which?, or should i stick with the existing one since the car is in the middle of a 36 month lease? He said he has to get to the clutch to inform me of the condition of the clutch first.. But I wanted to my due diligence first

Re: Getting a new tranny

After my trip to hell and back to get my tranny, they sent a new 6-speed AND replaced the clutch at no extra cost to me. I asked why they sent a clutch also and the dealer said corporate told them while they were there to just replace it so all was new. The dealer was surprised, but Inf sent it anyway. You will like the new trans. Way different from the original.

Re: Getting a new tranny

WOW...he's probably gonna call in an hour or so to inform me of the condition of the original clutch in the old tranny. Should I ask him if Infiniti will include a free clutch? I would assume the clutch wear was due to the synchros which were failing. What do you guys think?

Re: Getting a new tranny

when he said we should probably put a new clutch in too, he said "it woudl definitely be to your advantage"
HAHA, that is such a classic sales pitch line ! Then he said he would call me back after he found out the condition of the clutch... I mean, if he expects me to buy a 900 OEM clytch from them... i would rather go with a nismo or a JWT aftermarket. Question is whether they would do the free labor?

Re: Getting a new tranny

When you've taken the car apart that much, isn't it almost trivial for them to just do the clutch themself?

I could be wrong, I'm ignorant on the subject.. but I'd figure you better get free labor for the clutch

Re: Getting a new tranny

yea I agree.... But you know how dealerships work. Anytime they can get somebody to pay for labor, theyll hop on it...

Re: Getting a new tranny

Sorry.. Let me clarify what the problem was.

Everytime I went to third, above 3800 RPMS, the gear grinded. It ultimately got worse and worse over time and I finally thought it could be my synchros. So i took it in, he called me up, told me it was the synchros and that I was going to get a new tranny...

Re: Getting a new tranny

When they replace your transmission, they have to remove the old clutch anyway to put it in the new transmission. So they BETTER not charge you labor costs for the clutch even if you do decide to buy a new OEM or aftermarket clutch.

maddd_G

did your tranny not go into 3rd gear at first? then as time progressed it started to grind? I'm having some problems with the 3rd gear not going in about 5k but it's not grinding.

thanks

Re: Getting a new tranny

I sure hope they dont charge me...

Well, it would sorta refuse the 3rd gear.. so you would have to *** force to engage.. in which it grinds... does yours happen in fifth ?
