help me convince my dad..a full AT Flush will not adversely affect the AT

So my dad has been around cars for the better part of his life (though not really a mechanic). so the other day i bring up the fact that im pretty close to my 30 K service on a 06 5AT coupe and im looking to have my AT flushed.

He started and went on and on abt flushing the AT will cause slipping issues and mite even damage the AT (he had some theory abt the flushing process using some sort additives that will damage the AT).

so after researching, it appears there are 2 thoughts flying around abt AT oil service.

1) is to follow the drain / refill process 2-3 times (which seems to be the safest option and u mite be able to get rite of 80% of the old fluid).

2) to have the dealer use the flushing machine and completely flush the AT with Nissan S-matic fluid. (im looking @ abt CAD 250 for this... ouch!!!!)

so now im @ my wits end, i want to get rid of all the old fluid, but obviously not @ the expense of damaging my AT.

What gives...Any advice...feedback...?

No reason to do a flush (power flush) or a full fluid exchange (trans pumps it out).

Just do a drain and fill - You'll get out 6 of the 11 quarts, which is good enough especially at 30K miles.

#3) have the trans pump out the fluid while in Park. Remove one of the lines to the cooler in the radiator and add new fluid as its pumping out the old fluid. stop when the fluid coming out looks new. Fill to FULL and DONE. Requires about 14 quarts of Matic-S.

sounds good.

so im guessing, while in park, i start up the car and by having 1 of the hoses disconnected, i let the fluid drain out, until the fluid is red again

rite...?

Correct. Your fluid coming out will be red, just very slightly tarnished. Make sure you Add new fluid while you pump it out. It probably pumps out 1 qt every 5 seconds. Its fast. You might consider just running car for 10-15 second intervals and then adding fluid between.

If I were you I wouldn't do a full swap. No reason to. If you drain the trans you'll get 4.5 qt. Remove the cooler lines and let those drain and you'll get another 1.5.

At 30K miles on the tranny that is MORE than sufficient. Just my .02.
