new clutch engages off the floor

i installed a new exedy oem clutch and a lightweight flywheel. i installed everything perfectly and to the factory service manual but driving it, the clutch engages like RIGHT off the floor. maybe about and inch or 1/2 inch max.

I haven't bled the line because I never opened the hydrolic system. is it necessary to do? or is this normal for a new clutch and it adjusts itself with a break-in? I might just be paranoid because my old clutch engaged about 1/2" from the top in its going out stage.

anybody experience this or have any advice? Thanks guys!

When that happened to me I had air/debris in the lines. I flushed everything and it's back to normal and much smoother to engage.
