Midshaft/Center Support Bearing Noise?

Hello, I have been experiencing this "woowoowoo" type noise when driving. It is a rotational noise and increases with frequency as speed increases. It only makes the noise above 30 mph, mainly when coasting, both in neutral and in gear. When I begin to accelerate when in gear, the sound seems to nearly go away but I can still hear it faintly. If I accelerate with it in neutral when parked, there is no noise, so it definitely has something to do with the drive train.

At first I thought it was a rear wheel bearing, but now that I noticed that the noise seems to go away when the throttle is pressed, I am thinking center support bearing.

Any thoughts or experience with this sound?

Thanks.
Aaron

I had a similar sound that came and went with throttle and was not affected at all by cornering, but mine was loudest around 55mph. I was sure it was either the carrier bearing or the pinion bearing because the noise seemed to come from the center of the car and sounded too 'fast' to be a wheel bearing. It turned out to be my left rear wheel bearings. A shop was able to listen to it in the air with a stethoscope. I was skeptical even after they told me they fixed it until I drove it. sure enough it was fixed. that was at 90K, within 5K my other rear wheel bearing went out. I did the front two myself just for piece of mind.

Yours could be anything, that was my experience.

I had this problem on a friends car. The vibration due to a carrier bearing going bad is super obvious. I noticed a little wear on the upper side of the bearing (rubber) so what i did was play with the agle of the carrier bearing. Basically i added 1 then 2 then 3 washers per bolt as shims. Its an easy way of trouble shooting your noise it will either get worse or go away. Let me know what you find bro mike
