Rear Differential Oil changed (A MUST DO) READ!

Guys you really need to change your rear differential fluid. I just did mine at 18k of miles, and the amount of metal shavings that came out and on the magnet freaked me out! I kept putting the magnet back in the pan and removing it and more shavings all over it. I mean globs of them!

I used Amsoil Gear Lube 80w90. So the Rear-end should be good for a long time now.

I did that and trans oil a week ago at 9300 KM. The mechanic told me the oil in rea differ looks really bad. I put Motul gear 300 75W90 full sythn in both LSD and trans. I could definitly feel my car smoother, quieter and better fule economy after oil change. I fully recommend you guys to do so. I will be puttung Motul 300V in my engine when hit 10000km. Motul makes the best oil I think.

Re: Rear Differential changed (A MUST DO) READ!

I had mine done at 7,500 miles and will probably do it again at 15,000 miles. The dealership only charged $49.00-ish and after reading other posts like G35_TX's I thought it would be a good idea to have it done early.

Have you done the tranny fluid yet? I also had the dealership do the flush and don't regret it one bit.

What did they charge to flush the tranny?

Re: Rear Differential changed (A MUST DO) READ!

I won't do the tranny fluid because that would void my warranty on the tranny. A lot of Z owners got theirs voided because it wasn't the nissan fluid. With the syncro problems I do not recommend it since I just had mine replaced.

FAQ on here shows how to change the fluid in the differential.

Voiding warranty only happens if you got a AT,cos AT's trans and LSD must be filled up with Nissan own special oil.

Re: Rear Differential changed (A MUST DO) READ!

The dealership charged about $125 for parts, labor and disposal for the Transmission Flush. They used 16 (quarts?) of tranny fluid to do the flush and fill.

I wonder if Infiniti would void your warranty for using AMSOIL in the rear differential. It wouldn't make sense for them to void a warranty on a transmission for using non-OEM fluid, but then warranty a differential that used non-OEM fluid.

This logic is why I paid $216.89 for the oil change, diffy change and tranny flush. If something does go wrong, at least I did an early change/flush and the dealership will know that I only used OEM fluids. Cheap insurance if you ask me...

Re: Rear Differential changed (A MUST DO) READ!

Nope, if you read the bulletin for the tranny and the service manual, Nissan will only warranty the 6MT if it has the manual trans fluid recommended for the 6mt.

Re: Rear Differential changed (A MUST DO) READ!

If would make sense since they are having problems with the 6mt and will do anything to not cover it. That is why a lot of Z owners have gotten the warrantys voided for using redline in the tranny. Amsoil Gear oil for the rear diff looks just like what came out. So they would not be able to tell. But redline or amsoil in the tranny, its a different color all together so they can tell. Red for Redline, and Green for Amsoil.

Re: Rear Differential changed (A MUST DO) READ!

I put Amsoil Series 2000 75W/90 in the rear diff at 3500 miles. I just had it changed again at 43000. My mechanic that did it said there was virtually nothing on the magnet, not even fines. Told me it was a waste to change it out. But cheap insurance I say. I have a 5AT sedan with no LSD, so maybe its only the LSD that need changing every 15K or so due to plate slippage/wear.
