Did you have any clutch play @ the top of the pedal?

Yes, there was a tiny bit. I adjusted the nut&bolt to eliminate it though, you have to adjust it so that it hits the stopper rightttt at where the free play begins. Easy to do.

I originally found out this mod because its a little easier to do on a second gen car (yours). I found a thread showing a DIY for 2nd gen and decided to try it out on our first gen cars. Go for it, you will love the difference!

It also applies to both 1st & 2nd gens.
The spring setup is different but the end result is the same.

Played hookie and completed this today. Took me about 2 hours with taking my time and having some trouble getting the assembly back in. Went out for a ride and it feels great! This combined with the other pedal spacer mod has given a much improved feel when shifting.

Thanks for the DIY!

^idk man i kind of like the push back feeling the clutch has. im assuming the spring is what pusshes the clutch back up. does that pressure get totally removed?

^^ No it still has plenty of push back pressure. The clutch itself still has to release the pressure which brings the peddle back up nicely. I honestly dont think i felt much difference in how the peddle comes back up, only how it feels when it engages and releases. It feels a lot more responsive and you can get a better feel for exactly when the clutch pressure releases.

Good thing about the mod is it only takes about 20-30 minutes and is completely reversible. Its worth trying out. There are a lot of people on here who have done this without any complaints. I have been cruising on mine for quite a while now and have had no issues. Completely satisfied. You couldnt pay me to put the spring back in! LOL
