Just trying to get opinions on what i should do next I was looking into getting the valve body upgrade and was wondering if anyone already have this with upgraded gears and how much of a difference it makes

I went from 3.5 to 3.7 gears and noticed a difference. If you search, there's vids on this forum that show the difference in shifting with the Transgo VB upgrade, its definitely worth it.

Way way too much gear for an automatic G35 unless your car is making power to nearly 8000rpms. It might feel stout as hell, you can be assured you're slower that a stock geared 5AT in the 1/4 mile. More is not always better and it is quite possible to over gear a car.

With a shift kit - I bet you're wrong. Cut the shift times by 1/4 and rev much faster. Without a shift kit you're absolutely correct though.

Gas mileage would suffer dramatically though.

I personally agree and think its too much gearing for stock rev-limit/rpm band. But, each person has their own taste. It'd make for some fun driving nontheless

I'm pretty sure he's faster then a stock 5AT.

OP, were any systems affected from the gear swap? (speedometer, crusie control, traction control...etc)
What year is your car?

I agree with DaveB () 4.08 is too aggressive for 5 AT... 1/8 mile drag and half block quickies will be fun, but not much more. No top end (run out of gear quick), poor gas mileage and apparently chance of cc no workie. Would really suck on road course track (haul @ss out of corners, then dawg in the straights)

well heres the thing when i did the transgo upgrade my powerband has increased dramatically I agree I was only fast in the 1/8 but red light to red light always fun as for gas mileage didnt notice much of a difference until i put my foot in the pedal. I now have top end dont know why i just do the powerband from 40-140 is so much quicker =) I will video record it when i get a chance. But yes I have no cruise control other than that everything is great I do miss it but im in such a small city that it doesnt really need cruise control unless i go out of the city. In my car my car only gets to 7200rpms. Everyone that has done this install says well i can chirp 1st 2nd and 3rd gear. well all i can say is i dont I just take off like crazy for some reason dont have that wheel spin anymore in first and second just quick acceleration with top end now. Does anyone on here have the same setup as me and if you do, do you have the same results I do just curious cuz when I did this install I was thinking yes chirp 1st 2nd and 3rd but then when i took off I was kinda sad =(

^Your the first I've heard of putting 4.08 gears in an auto. The tire chirping thing really depends on what tires are used and other mods. You never did say what year your car was, I'm asking this because it seems the different models react differently to FD swaps.

I have 4.08 gears and if I've lost any top end, I haven't noticed. My car is also an auto, I can rev past 8k, and I easily see 140+ on the straight at Auto Club Speedway (before the built engine and gears I would hit closer to 130). Cruise control doesn't work, but I never used it anyhow. As far as gas mileage... well my heads and cams killed that, but I'm sure the gears don't help any.

My car definitely isn't the norm, but the 4.08's are awesome if you have the mods to support them.
