Flush before Transgo?

Just found the DIY for the Transgo VB upgrade and ordered the kit from Summit for $229. Should be getting it next Wed, just in time for install over the long holiday weekend.

I have had my G since new and it has 143,000 miles on it. I have always done the fluid exchanges on schedule but I am wondering if I should run some type of transmission flush through it to remove any accumulated varnish etc. Now would seem to be the right time to do it before dropping the pan an VB.

Any recommendations on the cleaning agent that should be used if at all?

You want to spend the money on 12 quarts of not so cheap s-matic fluid and flush your tranny only to drain out 8 of the quarts when you install the transgo kit???

Doesn't make any sense to me.

And yes, I have done multiple transgo installs.

It seems worthless to spend the money on 20 quarts when you only need 8.

I would not do any type of cleaning, Just change out the fluid. Unplug the return line and add fluid unto the fill point in the back of the engine bay at the rate its coming out. Then stop when the fluid coming out is new.

Read the FSM for more detailed info but this is what its listed to do.

I should not have said "flush" prior to the transgo. What I meant is would it be worthwhile to add a cleaning agent like SeaFoam Transtune to the old fluid to dissolve the crud so it gets drained out when the pan and VB are dropped. After that many miles I would think some of the internals may be a bit varnished but maybe not.

Thanks. So gravity is enough to clear the converter? I always thought that a pressurized flush via fluid transfer machine was the only way.

^ Its actually not gravity, you turn on the car, the tranny's pump is what is used.

Check the FSM its a lot more detailed :P I kinda just gave you the main points.

Don't flush before Transgo install. Waste of money. You are simply altering the VB anyways.

Just buy 8 quarts of Matic-S for the Transgo install. You will replace all that fluid. The only fluid you'll have left is in torque converter and a few nooks and crannies up inside the trans. Not enough to worry about. It should be pretty clean as is.

Make sure you loosen both lines connected to the trans cooler (its connected to the radiator) to empty out that last bit of fluid you can while doing it. It will maximize the amount of fluid exchanged.
