Dealer says they will use Matic J for tranny flush

They say they like to stick with Matic J instead of the newer Matic S on my g35. Is this true? anybody have any experience with this? should i tell them to use matic S instead? Thanks

sounds like a simple case of teh common sense.... they probably got loads of the older j matic stuff on the shelf that they're trying to get rid of.

kind of like when I walk into Subway and I ask for that fresh loaf of bread that came right out the oven only to have them tell me "Oh we can't sell you that bread yet"
bahaha, trying to give me crusty half day old bread ftl!

Hope they give you a sizable discount for using discontinued fluid.

I dont see a big deal if they use matic-j, that is whats recommended. But you should definitely ask for a discount.

^ Matic-S is also recommended. And there is a reason why Nissan discontinued Matic-J.

If the dealer will not give you a good discount on the J, go for the S imo. The S is much better fluid and most likely will last longer since its semi-syntheic. If you change out the fluid every 30k or so then it wont matter much.

Regular price is $350, they're matching a Nissan Dealership's price of $245...but I'll ask them to use matic S instead...but how will i know which one they used !?!?

After i get it flushed this time, i plan on doing the drain and fill at home every 20k-30k miles since its so easy and would only cost around $40..

^ Most likely thats a drain and fill

OP wants to do a flush = 12 to 13+ quarts at the cheapest price of 7 bucks that would hit 91 bucks for 13 quarts + half an hour of work. The dealer likes to charge for a full hour of work.

And when the flush is done the dealer will give you a receipt, it should state Matic-s

J matic isnt discontinued. I went with J matic instead of S matic for a couple of reasons. The car originally came with J matic and S matic is semi synthetic, and Ive heard that any kind of synthetic isnt too good for trannys...I know the new nissans and infinitis come with S matic now but I just felt more comfortable getting J matic =)

^ it is discontinued bro

And never heard anything about synthetics being bad.

If the dealer told you this then they just wanted to sell it.

Important part is you got it changed

they still sell it, dealer said it was up to me, they didnt say anything about S matic being bad. But i know a few people who thought it was better for me to stick with non synthetic. Im just glad i got it changed, it was pretty dirty. I'll be doing the drain and fill every 20-30k from now on.

Dealer must of had lots left over . How many miles did you have?

Looks like you will need to keep buying quarts from that dealer since you cabnot buy J online and it might be impossible to find else ware.

None of the dealers near me have J left. I wanted to get a VOA of J but meh.

At 39k I did the flush with S I am at 53k no issues.

Matic-J is discontinued. There is a reason for the Matic-S. Much better heat capabilities and longevity.

Nothing wrong with the Matic-J...its just discontinued because the matic S is so much better.
