Post Carbonetics LSD review (Auto G35)

Hey so I just installed the Carbonetics LSD on my 2003.5 G35 Sedan. Fist impressions: It is a lot easier to drive in the snow now, it feels closer to an AWD setup then before (It is not AWD). Secondly, it seems to have made a noticeable difference in cornering and straight line acceleration. I cant really tell how much faster it will be able to go, as I currently have puny snow tires on but I will be able to get a better impression once I get the summer tires back on. When cornering harshly I can hear the inside wheel chirp a bit. It is also hard to guage how much my acceleration has picked up, because my snow tires tend to leave 20 ft skid marks before they catch at all. Also, while I was testing it out I did manage to do a few proper drifts, not just sliding around like before, now I just have to learn how to do it consistently.

There is no clicking or popping like with normal clutch type LSDs, which makes this very suitable for daily drivers. Just make sure you use the recommended differential oil when it comes time to change it

Overall I am pleased with the LSD it is a good purchase. I am sure it will make a huge difference, come summer as I didnt even have the viscous LSD before.

If you are planning to install on an auto, you have to get the pumpkin from a 6MT, it wont bolt on properly to a 5AT..

Heres a link to me *trying* to test it...kind of hard when the parking lots full of snow, but trust me, it makes a difference in the dry. It is a bit harder to control now, it will take some time to get used to.

Not on a 2003.5 5AT sedan. It has an open differential stock, thats why I had to get the pumpkin from a 6MT

While I don't have this fancy LSD, I did swap in a 3.5 VLSD into my 5AT last year and have driven it around in the snow multiple times this year. Having the LSD does make a nice difference in the snow, especially when you need to turn off the VSC to get rolling. In the dry, it is definitely benefical in turns and on the launch. My G never had trouble laying down two strips of rubber from a start, but having the LSD distributes the power quite a bit better, reducing wheel spin and improving the launch. When I'd launch with the open diff, the tires would spin and the car went perfectly straight. With the VLSD, the back end steps over to the right a few inches the moment the tires start spinning indicating to me that both tires are spinning equally, for the most part.

The Carbonetic LSD will not work with any 5AT car with the original pumpkin. Here is an email I received from Carbonetic, inquiring if it will fit my car with 3.3 gears..

Dear Jordan.

Thank you very much for your inquiry.

Our LSD for G35/350Z is basically designed for 6MT OEM V-LSD model.
you can not fit direct, however if you have parts below from 6MT V-LSD model you could make fit CARBON LSD.

1, Ring gear, any gear ratio fit for 6MT model, OEM, performance one does not matter.

2, side flanges from V-LSD model, this is only need one side which longer side, shorter side one is same as open diff model.

the carbon LSD helps for you to safe and faster at high speed high way run and rough road too. for sure working track best.

Please understand carbon LSD is high end performance parts you have more maintain for parts especialy LSD oils.

if you have any question please let me know feel free.

Thank you
Best Regards
