Rebuilding master cyl? Does it actually work?

I suspect my master cyl is allowing fluid past the inner plunger seal. The other day I was driving, went to clutch in, and it was really light and spongy feeling. Clutch engages and disengages fine, but its right off the floor now, and has a lot of play before it even starts moving the shift fork. Felt like an air bubble.

I bled the lines 3 times now, not any better. If you pump the clutch, it stiffens up a little, but doesnt stay. If you ever so lightly press the pedal, it will slip down about half ways and not do a thing, and sit there. The master cyl makes a funky noise that sounds like the fluid is squeezing past the seal. Fluid levels dont hardly change when pressing the clutch, and you can see under the car that the shift fork isnt being pressed as far as it should be. In the end we decided its gotta be a bad master cyl.

Looking online there are rebuild kits. Has anyone had any luck with them? I've never been a fan or rebuild kits for anything, but they are $25 vs $70 for a new master.
