quest about diff swap

ok before i try and swap out my rear diff i have one quesiton just to make sure i am sure of what i am doing.

yes i read the how to on this and i just want to be absolutely certain before i jump on this project

currently have a auto 04 sedan with 3.35 fd gears

swapping to a auto 08 sedan with 3.69 fd gears with vlsd

i know i need to swap the flange to make it fit. i know i also need to cut something shorter. thats where the question comes in.

on the shaft that i need to cut down shorter. is the shaft from the 04 or the 08 that i am cutting? is there a specific end of the shaft that i need to cut?

The pinion shaft on the differential (3.7) is what needs to be cut. As long as its flush with the flange you will be good.

ok so it needs to be cut because its to long and sticks out of the flange? ok so i just take the flange and dust boot off the 04 diff and bolt it to the 07. then the shaft will be sticking out the middle of the flange and i can just take my cut off wheel and cut it flush with the flange?

also just to make sure. from the DIY it looks like to get the flange off its just a single nut?

Yes, it needs to be cut because it won't bolt up to the driveshaft without doing so. It doesn't have to be perfectly flush, I think mine extended about 1/8" past the flange.

Only one large nut is all that holds it on. Be careful not to over tighten that nut when installing because there is a crush-washer inside the diff that you do not want to damage.
