How long do rear differentials last?

Anyone have any idea how long the rear diff. pumpkins last on our cars? I'm looking to pick one up soon but I'm wondering what limit I should set for mileage on a used one.

The diff should last the life of the car, but the VLSD pack that is inside of (some of) them has an estimated life of 60k miles. After that it acts like an open diff. Of course, like a clutch its lifespan depends more on how it was used rather than how many miles.

Only 60k? Damn that sucks...I guess there's no way for me to tell if the VLSD is working or not before-hand. Hopefully I can find some with less miles.
