Which Rear differential Fluid should I use??

Hi Everyone
I have an 04 with 64k miles and i'm about to change the rear differential Fluid along with auto trans fluid. I just have one quick question about the rear differential fluid, Which one should I use? Should I go with OEM from nissan dealer or can I get something from the autopart stores. Thanks

I recommend any synthetic gear oil in the viscosity set out in your manual. I happen to use Amsoil Severe Gear.

I also recommend you search, this has been asked and answered many, many times.

Thanks for the reply. I did search and found quite a variety of topics about this question. I decided to use Nissan Matic-s fluid and might go for Amsoil Severe Gear SAE 75W-90.

For the transmission only stick with stock Nissan and for Differential I believe it is Gl5 type and I went with mobil 1 since bang for buck it made sense to me. The bottles were like $8 each and after 15k miles you can re do it and treat it like a flush versus buying high end diff oil that gets changed at 30k any ways. I was happy with spending less than $20 and the benefit was noticed right away. I plan to do the transmission and using only Nissan fluid since that will cure all the issues with after market oil like notchiness, harshiness and grinding.

Thanks a lot for the info. I bought the 75w=90 mobil 1 at Autozone for $8.99 per quart. For the automatic tranmission fluid, stealership charged me $14.95 per quart and the saleman even said to me "Welcome to the world of nissan/infiniti" ...

^^Buy the Matic S from your local Nissan dealer or online. It's a lot cheaper than going to the Infiniti dealership.

I along with a lot of others here use the Amsoil Severe Gear 75-90 in the diff and have been very happy with it.

75 vs 80 not really a big difference and its just the cold temp. They both are the same viscosity at operating temp

I plan on doing this tomorrow. I have an X but just need a few questions cleared up. I did my research thats y I'm doing it myself vs dealer. So I wanna do front, rear diff and transfer case. I was wondering if either drain plugs or filler plugs had crush washers, gasets, etc? If so can they be reused or have to be replaced? If replaced, do local auto stores carry them? Also on transfer case fluid matic d is recommended correct? Which is just regular atf fluid and not special Nissan fluid? Which means I can pick up my choice at my local auto store. Just wanna be sure I don't wanna have to pick anything up from the dealer so I can do this tomorrow

One more question. I'll need 3 quarts for the differentials and 2 for transfer case? Thanks

I bought the mobile1 and I did bought extra washer at the dealership just incase. But, I didn't change the washer at all because they're still good and my car was at 65K miles. I'm not sure about the X but my is RWD and it only need 2 quarts for the differential.
