Too much Tranny fluid

I recently changed the tranny fluid on my 05 sedan, and lost track of how much fluid came out. After refilling I am about 1/2 inch over the hot marking on the tranny dipstick. Would having too much fluid in the tranny cause it any harm?

Thanks in advance

Overfill can cause fluid to foam which is BAD. Also, too much can force the fluid pass the seal and cause further damage.

Most trans shops will tell you its not a big deal, but its always better to stay within the correct hash marks.

FYI, if you read the fluid on a hot day with the car cool (like 90 or 100 with the heat wave we've been having) you hsould be between the two lower notches. This the cold zone. To read hot you need to know the tranny temp.

If you have too much an easy way to remove fluid is the 10 dollar pumps at walmart. Stick it down the dipstick tube. Way easier than lifting the car and playing the don't-drop-the-filler plug game.
