So i am in the process of installing a short shifter in my car and i purchased a new shift cup. I cant seem to get the damn thing on. Im pressing as hard as i can and its all greased up too but it just wont go in. Anyone have any tips on how to install this thing?

I put the cup in between two bricks so the shifter can fit through without hitting the concrete and i just put all my weight on it.. I only weigh 160lbs. Snapped right in.. First time, no problem.. If u do a search people have used this method..

 

Ah got it finally. When i am testing the gears i can go into all of them but i cant press down to get into reverse. Is something misaligned?

 

Quick question. The Infiniti dealership I'm dealing with is stupid, they don't seem to know what the shifter cup is. Do you have a part number I can give them so I can move on with replacing mine?

From what I was told, you must buy the complete oem shifter from the dealer to get the plastic cup.. You can't just buy it sepert I tried. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone!

hey guys! so i attempted to install my stillen short shifter on my 06 G35 coupe and none the less all went smooth up until i had to press the old shifter out of the cup. i used the vise method but without any luck. three fins cracked off while pressing it out. i saw this coming a mile away. im gonna go see nissan on monday to see if i could order the cup :s my question is..... what method are people using to do this. im out of options, but the logic behind it seems to be quite simple. has anyone tried heating up the cup while pressing in a frozen shaft. maybe that might work. thanks in advance, all help is appreciated

 

Oh oh! I have a perfect solution for this. So what I did was take a jack stand, remove the adjustable piece so you are just left with the stand a squareish hole. I put the short shifter in and use two long pieces of metal on the sides of the cup. Used a wrench and a big flat head screw driver. The thing went in super smooth and there was no damage to anything. The hole of the jack stand was perfect to fit the shifter in.

 

Okay sounds like a plan! As soon as I order one monday morning I'll try it out the way you said. I'm gonna call nissan and give the same part code as the one you have dispalyed on the thread. I hope it'll be the same for a 06 G coupe! Will update this week! Next solution is pop it on a drill press and press this thing in before I loose my mind
