Need help with Mishimoto radiator trans cooler lines
So about a month ago I found out I had a huge crack in my radiator around the upper plastic part underneath the radiator cap. I JB welded it and it ran fine for a few days until I noticed I wasnt getting any heat from the car anymore when I was sitting at the lights. I got home popped the hood and saw that there was another crack. Just to be sure, I did a pressure check to see if there was anything really seriously wrong and come to find out there was about 3-4 cracks on the top and lower plastic ends of the radiator....great....
I figured I am going to be keeping this car for years and plan on modding it so I mind as well start by upgrading the radiator. I know I dont need too yet but I was looking ahead to future steps like turbo or supercharging so I guess what better way then to do it now. I ordered a Mishimoto duel core radiator and also got Samco Sports hoses as well.
Now heres the part where my problems start happening again. I got all the parts installed but the trans cooler lines for Mishimoto do not have the tubing adapters like the oem radiator does. Since I was late to work I just pushed the tubes into the cooler lines and put a worm clip on it and it help up pretty good until one of the hoses started to seep out atf fluid. It wasnt alot, just like a small spray if you were to poke a knife in a hose. I replaced the hose and yesterday it started to do it again. Im thinking that when I pushed the rubber hoses onto the threads of the cooler lines it might of cut the inside of the hoses and the pressure of the ATF lines made them rip even more. I think i'll need -an fittings to fix it.
My question is what's the size for Mishimoto's rad trans cooler line? From the looks of it, I think ill need a -6 AN female to 3/8" tubing adapter or a -8 AN female to 3/8" tubing adapter. I just want to make sure I get the right size. Does anyone with a Mishimoto rad know the size fittings they used with the stock rubber trans hoses from the cooler lines? I used the search function but it didnt come up with the answer i needed. Anything will help, much thanks!

It says on their site it's a direct oem replacement for MT and AT. I'm surprised they could sell it with this issue.
So what have you been doing in the meantime? Did you get a separate AT cooler?

yes, i had an external trans cooler to begin with, so ive just had that hooked up. but i would like to have two trans coolers, and all we need to do is figure out the threads and have some sort of connector made so we can clamp the hoses on

yes, i called them and they dont know what the threads are. they said it was a manufacturing mistake or something. they offered to take the radiator back and refund my money, or send me a free external cooler to attach to the front of the radiator. i took the second option but have other plans for the cooler they sent me. i still want to use the trans cooler located inside their radiator.
Oh boy...My Mishimoto just arrived and I have the same issue. Threaded, larger nipple for the transmission lines. I'll definitely be calling Mishimoto up to complain. Guess I'll head to Home Depot tomorrow to try and find something to make this work.
Well, found the fittings at Home Depot to utilize the transmission cooler. I'll take pics of them tomorrow so you guys can see what to get for future reference. I had to buy a fitting, then female coupler, and some teflon tape. Got the radiator installed and the transmission lines sealed up fine. Didn't see any leaks coming from that.
UNFORTUNATELY my radiator is defective. It leaks transmission fluid from somewhere inside the fins of the radiator... Pretty poor quality if you ask me. Hopefully they send me a transmission cooler or new radiator so I can use my car again. Fitment of the radiator was not perfect either. I wasn't able to get it down completely all the way because one of the metal "clips" on the side facing the AC condenser gets caught on the frame of the car. It's maybe 1/2" of an each raised up. Barely fit in the engine bay.

awesome! please post part numbers and pics if you can. sorry to hear about your leak. the fitment on mine was not perfect, but i think i got it farther down than yours. i had to cut some parts of the support to make it work but otherwise, no complaints.

You need to make this female, so I bought a 1/4" FIP coupler to go along with it (part # A-732)

Then, get some teflon tape, which they should have in the same section. You'll need to apply it to the threads on the radiator and also on the threads of the hose barb adapter. I also picked up 2 small worm hose clamps to make sure it was secure.

Just an update: Mishimoto sent out a new radiator and this one doesn't leak. Works great with the fittings from Home Depot. Fitment still wasn't perfect, but oh well. I have to say I was impressed with their customer service.
Now that I have this external trans cooler, I think I'm going to build some brackets and run it in series with the radiator for additional cooling.
