6mt Rebuild???

Hey,

Got a 2003 g35 coupe with 100k and my syncros in my tranny (especialy 1st -2nd) are dying on me.

Anyone have theirs rebuilt? Or better just to get a new one from the dealer?

I would not rebuild your old broken crappy 100k miles transmission. The older 2003-2004 transmission were junk and below cd009 revision. They had issues with weak syncro, and bad internal design that was revised in the NINTH REVISION. I would pickup the cd009 since CD009 has triple cone 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear syncro, 3rd gear baulk ring,5th gear baulk ring, and 5th gear. I would also get Import Parts Pro JWT clutch/flywheel package that comes with the shorter 2004+ pivot ball, nismo bearing, stainless lines and shipping.

G35 discount is $1699 and shipping is $170

Price is $1695 + $185 shipping. I would have Concept try to beat dealer pricing and throw in fluids.

Your transmission is junk anways no offense and being 2003-2004 it is lower than cd009. Cd009 started in 07/04 for 350z and towards the start of the year in 2005 for g35.

When you have money down the road buy this setup...you will probably need a different shift fork and pivot ball the shorter one..thats what she said..d.erp

Nice, super informative.

So any manual tranny would fit any year g35, doesnt matter whether its a NON-rev or REV up motor?

Yes just pick up the cd009 along with shorter pivot ball on the newer 2004+ models. Get motul fluid for the clutch, and nissan OEM fluid for the tranny. Change out diff fluid while you are at it with mobil 1 gear oil. All the revisions are the same bell housing so they will mate right up to your engine just the differences in the pivot ball. Double check the part number on the shift fork but I think they are the same for all the years just the pivot ball.

You can use any 6MT tranny with your car, just make sure its the CD009 version. I'm not sure about your area but I can find them locally on craigslist for around $700, absolutely no reason to buy a new one and go through the dealer unless you just like spending money

$700 dollars for new or used. How many miles on that transmission and how many hard launches, mismatch shifts, skip shifts, abuses and any history of maintance like fluid changes. If you are planning on spending $500-$750 paying labor for install and you end up installing a cd009 with 60k miles who knows if the synchro is shot, or fluid has never been changed. I would only get a transmission that I can test and get some sort of warranty and verify the mileage. Any one can tell you it has low mileage on it and never abused but I rather see a speedometer with that mileage or get a VIN CHECK. Stick with brand new and you will get 1 yr warranty along with that when you sell it you will be able to get some money back on the sale since it is new and not a used transmission.

Yes, you are absolutely right. Go to the dealer and buy a brand new one. You obviously know more about this than anyone else..

Brand new CD009 tranny from Coz @ ConceptZ for $1695. Yes it will fit your car, i just installed mine yesterday and it is amazing. Make SURE the pivot ball is the shortened version NOT the long one or else you'll have to pull the gearbox out again..

Nice, Can you please educate me on the pivot ball, what is it and how do I change it. Does it come with the new tranny or I use my old one? Is the 2003 version the short one or do I have to buy it seperately?

Unfortunately i did not do the install myself so i can't help you on that. All i know is, that i had my car ready at the shop at 5:30 then as the guy went to adjust the clutch he couldn't do it properly. Pulled the gearbox out again, and realised there's a big difference between the 03 pivot ball and the new one that DOES come with the CD009 tranny.
the 2003 pivot ball is the short one, 04-07 has the longer version **** knows why they decided to change it but they did! No you do not have to pay extra for the pivot ball. I would also recommend getting a rear main seal too with the gearbox. Throw out bearing is also included in the gearbox.
