New Clutch Install / Release Bearing issue
New Clutch Install / Release Bearing issue
Hi Guys,
Car = 2003 G35 Coupe w/ brembos
I need some of ya'lls expertise. I just installed a new JWT flywheel, Clutch Pressure Plate, Disc, Release Bearing, Pivot ball and Pilot Bushing over the last 2 days. I finally got it all bolted back up today and the car fired up the first time and everything sounded great. As soon as i tried to put it in gear, the problems started.
When i was pushing on the clutch pedal, it did not seem so give as much resistance as it did before i installed the new clutch. So when i pushed the clutch in after the install, for the first 25-40% of the push it is very light and only after do you feel that there is pressure making the release bearing move. When i tried to put it in gear, you can just hear it grinding (i assume the fork is not pushing the bearing enough to allow me to put it in gear)
I can force it a bit into first gear but as soon as i start letting the clutch out the car immediately tried to take off, then stalls and dies. I also did a tranny fluid change and put in some good AMSOIL. I just need to get my car on the road again and might just bring it to AAMCO, but want to see ya'lls opinion first as it may be something small and worth my time to pull it out again and get that fork/release bearing corrected (if that is the problem)
I am assuming there is a problem with the release bearing/fork... but wanted to get ya'lls opinion. I attached a few photos... Thanks!!

Might need to bleed it. I changed all the same stuff on mine and had to bleed the clutch afterwards to get the pressure back. It's a pain to do though. So before attempting it I would make sure everything else is ok first. If you do bleed it I would recommend doing it from the slave cylinder nipple up. I tried to do the pump/bleed method and couldn't get it to bleed at all. Also,was the flywheel was lined up right?
thx for the reply Almightyone...
I talked to AAMCO this morning and they said the same thing.. Bleed it and he also asked if I put a new slave cylinder on which I did not.. He said that would have been the first thing he checked and replaced.
I bled the system, put a new stainless steel line on and master cylinder. That definitely helped. I bled it until fresh clean fluid came out and i bled it from the nipple on the slave cylinder. But one thing AAMCO also said is people give up to early and that micro bubbles form and they bleed the hell out of the system when they change as many parts as i did. They bleed it, bleed it, wait til it feels right.. then wait a few hours then bleed the crap out of it even more.
They also told me the slave cylinder goes out first always and I probably should have changed that also. So I ordered one today and i am going to put it in tomorrow and bleed the crap out of the system and see if that works. Whew! This has been a great learning experience and a pain in the *** also!
