2004 G35 5AT - Transmission issues at only 79,000km?
2004 G35 5AT - Transmission issues at only 79,000km?
Just looking for similar experiences/advice from anybody...
My '04 G35 coupe 5AT currently has only 79,000km was owned by female driver in family and babied for first 57,000km and I have owned for 2-yrs since, never raced it, etc. In the past week the transmission has begun having hard shifts while accelerating normally, and sometimes 'shakes' at idle and when driving straight at consistent speed (say 60km/h).
- Flush done at 48k
- Fluid changed at ~74k (about 5000km ago), nothing leaking since
- It is very intermittent, and much of the time it still shifts nice and smooth. But getting worse.
- RPM needle does not jump around
- No lights on dash
I have an appointment at the dealer in a few days to have the transmission flushed, and will see what happens. I can't imagine the transmission dying already, there has to be something else going on. Any input appreciated!

Did you really get a trans flush? The dealerships charge $300 to $400 for a "Flush!" Most of us get a drain/fill on our ATs and it costs $125 at Nissan rather than getting screwed by Infiniti. I'd take your G to a trans shop rather than the dealership, if you know of a reliable shop. If you don't ask friends/auto parts stores and realitives for a quality trans shop....Gary

Might be the TCM (transmission control module) is starting to have issues. With all of the computer controlled stuff in our cars, sometimes you will assume a mechanical problem is going on when it's actually a computer/sensor issue.
He's^^ correct, with the higher mile cars transmission flushes are generally not recommended for our cars. As the transmission wears, small particles will clump together to actually fill in worn spots in the gears and such which helps the tranny to run smooth. When these are flushed out, the gaps become an issue and can lead to a slipping, jerky tranny.

Thanks for the input, I just found the TSB in another thread from Nissan/Infiniti to dealers that they advise against flushes. I think I will cancel dealer appointment and bring to transmission shop as you suggest.
