Question 2004 G35 6MT Sedan Trouble Downshifting

Hi All,

I'm new to these forums and hope I'm posting in the correct place.

I drive a 2004 G35 sedan with the 6 speed manual. Everything with the car and transmission seem to he working fine until I try to downshift through the gears. Parked with the engine running and the clutch depressed I can shift up and down 1-6 then 6-1 without issue. Driving up through the gears is fine. Here's where the issue starts: I can shift 6th to 5th no problem. However, 5th down to 4th I cannot get into 4th gear same with 4th back down to 3rd it's like it's not there. However 3rd gear to 2nd gear is no problem. The only way I can shift from 5th or 6th gear down to a lower gear is if I depress the clutch put the gear shift in second gear then select either 3rd or 4th gear. It's a huge hassle and takes a bit of fun out of the manual transmission. It seems odd to me that 6th to 5th is fine, and 3rd to 2nd is fine and I'm able to go up and down thru the gears with no issue while stopped. So if I'm driving 45-50mph in 5th gear and I want to downshift to 4th and pass a slower moving car I have to shift from 5th gear to 2nd gear then from 2nd gear to 4th gear and release the clutch same goes for 3rd gear. Please help
