Replacement clutch question

Hi guys, great forum, longtime lurker. Last May I bought a G35 coupe 6mt and I love it. I put in a Ztube/popcharger/DVD with the screen in the sunvisor/carbon hood/clear corners/and this summer giving in a new pair of shoes and a catback. Anyways, it has 10,500km on it, and today the clutch went out! I was shifting into second, it seemed to get stuck, revved too high, and when I pulled over it smelled awful. Got it towed in, clearly its messed up. Anyways, I'm ready for a big fight with Infiniti over this, but I'm preparing for the worst. On eBay I noticed replacement "OEM" clutches for $240? I was wondering if anyone has used one of these, if it really is OEM, and if anyone has any tips for arguing about why this isn't my fault. Here's the clutch I'm looking at getting: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW

Thanks G35Drivers!

i would recommend putting on an aftermarket lightweight flywheel and clutch. since youre reducing rotational mass, you are improving performance. search the forum and you can find lots more information than i could possibly provide.

if you hav eto pay anyway, go aftermarket. install a stronger one and lighter flywheel. I'm waiting for mine to go out, then planning on installing the OS Giken twin plate clutch from SGP Racing in Houston

What about the unorthodox flywheel? There's one for $500 on ebay. I'm not sure if I need to replace that too.. Crap.

What exactly got stuck? The pedal? The shifter?

As far as rotational mass and a lighter flywheel improving performance, it depends on what you consider performance. Lighter flywheels will make it more difficult to start the car off from a start. It will inherently cause our transmissions to be noisier as well.

Thanks for the good advice - Much Appreciated. I'm not entirely certain what got stuck, but when I attempted to give it more gas, I would just hear it rev higher, without any more acceleration. It's like it wasn't quite in gear. The shifter was in properly in gear, it must have been the pedal. When I took the car in for a routine matience check a month ago, a tech noted that the clutch pedal seemed too high. I'm sure this is somehow related, I just have no idea what would cause that. I was doing some searching and I read some posts along the lines of "everything is under warranty for the first 12mo or 12k." I'm well within those limits, but I'm just not sure if the same applies in Canada. The service manager seems like a good guy, so I'll just try to play my cards right.. It just doesn't help that my car has a street-racing look to it.. Will aftermarket clutches/flywheels void my warranty?

When I took my G in for them to inspect the loud rattle while in neutral, clutch not engaged (no sound when clutch was depressed), it had just under 12K and mentioned I needed a new clutch. Before them accusing me of not knowing how to drive stick, I told them I have been driving stick for over 10 years and logged several hundred thousand miles on previous cars with no problems. Anyway, when they took out the tranny they noticed the pressure plate was busted which is what cause the loud rattle. The clucth was replaced under warranty! This could be what happened to you, only you didn't catch it soon enough or it just completely shattered or something.

Anyway, this should be covered under warranty! Make sure they know you didn't learn stick on this car!

They're taking it apart now to look for signs of abuse.. Now that I think about it, this wasn't the first time it got a bit stuck like this. On those occasions I smelt some clutch too, but I didn't think it was a big deal, just a weird shift. My question is this will probably look like the same damage as someone who has abused the car. How can fight this? Does anyone have the 12k/12mo clause in writing anywhere? Thanks!
