Awd light flashing/not working help!
Hey guys,
My Awd light would start flashing last year, during the winter, when id be spinning trying to get traction(awd obviously not working). Wouldn't come on right away, only after lets say, 10 seconds of spinning. It would turn off after maybe a minute or so.
Has anybody experienced this? Does the awd module store codes since it only flashes and then goes away?
Thanks in advance!

Definitely agree, I just try to steer away from the dealer. I've scanned it with an expensive snap on scanner and tried to monitor some stuff but i don't believe it has the consult protocol.
Yeah as far as I'm aware only the Consult-II/III is able to actually communicate with the transmission like that. You will just be paying a 1 hour diagnostic fee probably.
If you wanted to dig a little deeper into the troubleshooting yourself get the car up on jackstands, put it in SNOW MODE, see if all 4 tires turn. Snow mode will force a 50/50 bias.
If it DOES work on jackstands then what probably is happening is the fluid level is low and it's overheating when it's being forced to work. When it's temp sensor hits the high limit the AWD light starts flashing rapidly and the system is disabled and you're basically just stuck in RWD mode.
Things like using staggered size tires on the AWD equipped cars is a huge culprit for overheating the transfer case. Same with using the wrong fluid, I've seen people mistakenly put Matic-J or S into the transfer case, it requires Matic-D fluid.
