why do I have an awd light with no awd

I have a 2004 g35 and when the sun hits my dash I can see were there is an awd light. Did they just make the dash the same for the 35 and 35x to save money, or am i missing something here. I know its probably a stupid question

Did it to save money.

I had a GTI with a VR6 that I turbo'd and it had a little marker light for diesel specific items.

No big whoop, just about every car has it.

yep to save money making one cluster. I can see an AWD light too but im also RWD. Even the G35 coupe guage cluster has it and AWD wasnt even an option.

The dash clusters always usually contain all the warning lights, but only the ones needed for the model are used.

On my 06 g35x, I can see the shift arrow light, as well as the RAS (rear active steer) light...but my car has neither.

Yep, to save money, if you look the 03/04 sedans had unpainted sills which made it cheaper, for the refresh they painted them as It looked so much better.

Not sure if that was a money saving decision or or a design one.

A lot of cars are built this way. They come with a basic chassis and wiring and misc hardware to support options that may not be available on that model.

For example, you can find wiring for convertible tops in coupes, or wiring for premium stereo speakers in a car with basic stereo, etc.

Most g35s are prewired for sat radio with the data cable in the trunk, even if it's nit a factory option. Just cheaper/easier to built cars as similar as possible and share as many parts as possible.
