with the 6 speed the 3.9 is not that much of a jump from 3.5. i mean it does help but does anyone make like a 4.10 or 4.30 ratio.

perfect example is many ford and gm cars myself included. Mustang going from 2.73 rear end gear ratio to 3.73 gained myself and my buddys a average of 5-8 tenths.

gm car ie camaro-s10 3.42 to 4.10 4 tenths

does anyone else make gearing higher than 3.90 because 3.5 to 3.9 isnt that much of a jump but 4.10 would be pefect

 

I think because the solid rear diff has been in service for so long and for so many applications, there are a variety of gear ratios from 2.73 to 5.14.

The driveline for the G isn't quite that old and mature. Plus, given the nature and build of the car, drag racing isn't going to be it's first priority and hence the limited selection of rear ratios.

 

hmm, 4.1 eh? that would kill gas mileage like crazy for daily driving wouldnt it?

 

UMM if i wanted gas mileage i would have bought a 4 cylinder car.

from 3.5 to 4.10 mpg shoudl at most be down 2 miles per gallon. which im fine with cause i never drive slow anyway

so who else makes rear end gears for these cars besides 350evo.. anyone can give me some info?

 

they are the only ones... and I have heard that they are (or at least WERE) thinking of doing a 4.x

 

The basic R200 differential has been around forever, but they keep changing the length of the nose. There are ring and pinion sets around for the 300zx/240sx anywhere from 3.545 to 4.636. Although, the ring gear from these kits would probably mate up fine, the length of the pinion gear shaft is probably incompatible.

For a couple hundred dollars, you could be a pioneer and try installing a J30 differential from a junkyard, which I believe has 4.083 gearing.

 

I say drive a car with the 3.9 gear before you try anything higher. The 3.9 was on my mod list, but I chickened out because I'm not willing to put up with the extra noise. The VQ isn't necessarily a quiet engine. Most V8s can do this mod, because they're low-compression and not high-revving to begin with. I already feel the G35's first gear is aggressive. The 3.9 just multiplies that. Traction will be an issue, even with the 3.9.

Does the G35 use the R200? I would've figured on the R230. But whatever I guess.

I'm not sure the J30 Diff would work. It uses the same outer dimensions as the R200 out of the 240sx w/ABS which is also only about 3/4" longer than the non-ABS version. If there is a significant difference in size from the G35 carrier to the 240sx Carrier , the J30 unit probably won't fit...unless you change the driveshaft length to compensate.

 

The 350z uses the R200, so I just assumed the G35 would as well.

Another option would be to change tire size which coud be equivelent to regearing.
