S4 Cabrio? TT Coupe Quattro? Impreza 2.5 RS? 3000GT VR4? Eclipse GSX/Talon Tsi awd? Carrera 4? 996 Turbo/Turbo S..................... it's been done, and done properly by factory engineers with massive budgets, CAD programs, and ......perhaps you should have shopped more thoroughly. I'd seriously advise you to abandon this folly and perhaps find one of the above mentioned cars.....the DSM's are very mod friendly and actually not bad looking. The VR4 would probably more of a challenge to find at a reasonable price. Of course, I like the RWD dynamics of this car and the only thing I lust for is about 400rwhp and tq, not practicality. Of course, I don't have the funds.

The S4 cabrio is FUGLY and besides, I want a coupe not a conv., the TT coupe quattro are all over the place and look like a squished volkswagen beatle (fun to drive in the snow though I know a few people that have them, highly considered this car for myself, but the wife wants an auto and hate the way they look), the impreza 2.5RS???? are you serious... 0-60 in like a week. the VR4 is a good car, but finding an unmodified low mileage '99 VR4 in good shape is a definate challenge, we tried. It is my wifes all time favorite car and I wish they would come back with them. When we were 18 she had a '92 stealth RT TT AWD... SWEET *** CAR! loved it but all these cars are old now. same story as the eclipse, a car she has had 3 of ('93, '98 spyder, '01) and if the new ones were out already we would have seriously thought about one of those. THe '01 was nice, but disappointing and we quickly got bored. and come on... AWD porsches, if I could afford one, I definately wouldn't be driving an Infiniti. I LOVE THIS CAR, I just wish it had AWD. The sedan is available in X and this should be a simple bolt on swap. I do love the RWD characteristics during the summer and when not driving in: RAIN, SNOW, ICE, DIRT, SLEET, ANYTHING ELSE BAD. Rear drive is the only way to go when screwing around, but when it comes down to it, AWD is the only way to go where I live. Went and looked at an STi today at the subaru dealership, funniest thing, they actually have a sign on it that says serious inquiries only... anyways, the car is just not sleek enough. The G is a perfect car... almost, and if I can make that one change I don't know that we would ever get rid of it. So quit flaming me. An AWD coupe would be the bomb, if it were an option I know that there are a TON of people that would be first in line. All I want to do is figure out how to make it work and what it will cost.

I don't know why so many people are so negative about this. Just because no one else has done it doesn't mean it can't be done or is not worth doing. If nothing else, you'll have a one of a kind G35.

Recipe for an AWD G35 coupe:

Ingredients:

1) 1 G35X Sedan Chassis - Complete
1) 1 G35 Coupe Body - Complete with hood, bumpers, trunk lid, door panels, fenders

Take the G35X Chassis and bolt on the G35 Coupe body over the X Chassis. Some modifications will be necessary.

Ahahaha!

I think it's a great idea but if you're doing this so you can take on AWD Subarus and Evos then you're heading in the wrong direction.

I drive an FX35 and the car comes in RWD and AWD. AWD adds 200 or so pounds to the car and makes a big difference when it comes to off the line speed. The G35 coupe is not a light car to begin with. Adding 200 pounds in parts and drivetrain components means that you're going to be driving with that 200 pound FAT girl riding in the car ALL the time! Imagine what that is going to do to your 0-60 times and handling.

The suspension set up on the FX35 and G35X in the front is different that the RWD G35 coupe and sedan so a lot of suspension parts will have to be converted - IF POSSIBLE.

Also the AWD computer is linked to the ECU, and there is NO 6MT AWD FX35 or G35X out there, so if you have a 6MT then you will have issues.

Good luck. Do lots of research. And hope you have just won the lottery because in all this is going to cost you WAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY more than the 4K you are predicting!

No, and please don't waste your time with this project. you will be adding a ton of weight to an already obese car. if you are having problems with handling, or launching, set up your suspension correctly or learn how to drive, please. put the 4 grand in the bank (not that you will be able to do this project for anywhere near that) you will thank me later. i personally do a lot of fabrication and installation work, and know how much it really costs to do things of this nature. 4 grand might cover labor alone...maybe.

i second MrBillMartin's earlier post.

waste of money to convert it into AWD, seriously, for the money, just buy another WRX for winter......

ppl actually make the AWD GTRs into RWD to be faster.

and 1grand for a set of 16" snow tires???? u must be getting ripped off..... i got a set of Blizzark WS50 17" and cost me only 800 CAD! and Canada have inflated tire prices, bridgestone cost at least twice as much then the states

with a set of snow tire, the G35 is good enough on snow....

if Top Secret can't/won't do it, then you don't have a prayer...

save the $10k you'll lose attempting this project and put it toward your downpayment for the '08 GT-R...

Please stop flaming and discouraging. It's an idea and help would be appreciated instead of just saying save your time blah blah and if TopSecret won't do it, you shouldn't do it either. What if he does want to spend 30k on it. Then let him, he just wants helpful information and you guys aren't helping much.

Looks like I have to pursue this on my own. Anything over 5k for parts and I will put it aside and save it for a cold rainy GTR day. Some insight from TOPSECRET would be great. I have a feeling they didn't do it because there just wasn't any room for the driveshaft alongside that GIANT V8. I want an AWD G. Might have to wait for the GTR...

Here's a thread regarding a 350z that had a AWD conversion (along with a RB26DETT).

What you don't know is that those aren't stock-framed Z's...

I honestly don't even know why I'm posting on this thread... this is an idiotic idea, esp. from someone who lists one of his potential mods as a "cheater nitrous kit" - wtf?!?

I'm going to stop wasting my time now...
