Odd noise in my AT 2nd to 3rd gear change
I have noticed that when i am driving my G35 alittle more aggresivly that i hear an odd noise comming from under the hood. This occurs for about 1 second durint the gear change from 2nd to 3rd. It almost sounds like a very small gear grind(which is impossible on AT no?). I also heard this noise in a G35 demo. I havent read anything on the forum about it, does anyone know what this might be?

Hey Marcel, I think the noise you're refering to is the engine going into it's torque band (about 4k) after shifting into 3. The exhaust seems to be loudest at that point for some reason. If it's the same 'noise' you're talking about, it sounds more like a growl than a grind to me. I like it.
When's the Texas meet you mentioned before? Let us know how it goes.

Re: Odd noise in my AT 2nd to 3rd gear change
Marcel, The'Torque band' I refer to is the beginning of the engine's peak area of making good torque: with our VQ's I believe that's about 3k and on up to it's peak of 4800 rpms. I thought maybe the noise you hear is the engine in that Peak area, but sounds like not. I havn't heard any other noises in mine or the demos I drove, but is it possible you're hearing the imfamous Air Conditioning noises so prevalent in warmer parts of the country? Apparently the noise can be quite raspy and loud at 3000 rpms or so when the air is on. If you sit in the driveway with the windows down, and air on, rev the engine to 3k and if the compressor and mounting bracket are bad it'll sound like weed-wacker (as someone described it). If it is that then there's an 'ITB': #02057 or #02056 I'm not sure which , that your Infiniti dealer should know all about for the fix. Let him have a listen and see what he thinks. Hope this helps. If anyone else has anything to add jump in. I've heard only sweet noises under my hood so far. Later
