VDC
VDC
OK, I've searched through the threads but can't seem to find a definitive answer, how do you fully turn off VDC?
I understand that momentarily pushing the VDC button will partially disable the system, which it seems to do. I heard that to fully disable the system I should hold it in for 15-20 seconds. When I do this the VDC light goes out, but the system still appears to be *fully* active. While the ground was wet from rain, I tried to spin the tires by pressing the brake lightly and throttle and by doing full throttle turns. This caused the slip light to go on and I can feel the system engage and prevent wheel spin. In this mode, subsequent button pushing has no effect. The VDC light remains off and I have to turn off the ignition to re-enable VDC, so I am sure that I was in the “special” mode.
In comparison, momentarily pushing the VDC button seems like it disengages the system the most. The “special” mode seems the same as when VDC is fully engaged. I have tried this several times with the same results.
Someone please enlighten me!
Thanks,
Doug

Re: VDC
I think , like you've discovered, that you can't fully turn off the VDC system. It seems just pressing the VDC-OFF button once will disable the system enough to allow wheel spin in some circumstances. Not sure what pushing the VDC-OFF button for 12-15 seconds accomplishes. There's been no answers yet on that one, although it seems not much. I know some of the fellas have done smokey burnouts including turns with the VDC off but there are some inconsistencies.

Yea, I also posted this on FA and so far the ony way to disable it completely is to pull the 50amp fuse that powers VDC. Unfortunatly this also disables ABS. Plus it just seems like a PITA.
Re: VDC
Is it unsafe to pull the VDC fuse? I just want to see howmuch power i would get without it on.. Would it be okay to be done for a mile or so?

Re: VDC
I am not sure on how much power is actually gained. But with the no traction ride you will feel how powerfull your car really is. It will either scare you into keeping it on or it will make you fall in love with the car all over again. I drive with vdc on and when i feel the time is right i will kill it(in safe situations only). Actually last night I did atleast a 30 second burnout to fishtail doughnuts. You really need to learn to control your car with it off before you drive it with any cars or walls or anything but road insight.

Re: VDC
In my car, holding down the button puts the system in failsafe mode which is vdc on, dash light off. Turning the vdc off with the button makes a big difference. The car is much more "wired". I have not pulled the fuse because I understand that it desables the abs and that sounds like a recipe for disaster.
Re: VDC
Seems weird to me to. I went a test drove a Sedan and I turned the VDC off by simply pushing and the lite said VDC off. At a light I gave er a little and the wheel spun no problem.
Drove the Coupe M6, did the same and couldn't get it to spin even in the rain. I want my car to smoke the tires!!!!!
Obviously more research is in order. When anybody figures out how to totally turn off VDC (without pulling the fuse) please post.

Re: VDC
Coupe 6MT has a LSD (Limited Slip Differential) This limits too much wheelspin and protects from fishtailing in corners and blasting your wheels at the line. A lot of sports cars have them.

I few months back a mag (can't remember which one, I'll look it up tonight) they indicated that in oder for them do get the Z to do big smokey burnots they needed to do something with the brake light...
I'll get all the details of the article later and post.

Re: VDC and LSD
The LSD is to eliminate 1 wheel spinning when they break loose. If wheel spin occurs the LSD engages the other wheel (locks the differential) so that both wheels spin at the same time, not your inside wheel when you are cornering. Helps maintain speed/traction in straights and cornering. It is not a form of traction control. I just need a car that can smoke the tires with power, not clutch dumps. Not sure if the VDC was defeating me when I drove the car.
