Periodic problem with auto trans response
Anyone else experienced these problems. If so did the dealer solve the problem?
#1 - My sedan's automatic transmission response under many normal driving situations has been totally unacceptable and at times dangerous.
When moving at 35-40 MPH in in the overdrive (5th) gear, the transmission will often only kickdown one gear to 4th. This results in very limited acceleration when you need to be able to pass or get out of the way of other vehicles. The problem is periodic and seems more pronounced on hotter days.
This happened to me during my stay in Phoenix and twice when passing during a recent 400 mile trip.
2 - I believe the second problem has been previously discussed. Has the newer G35S automatics response been improved?
In the transmission's manual mode, the time delay between moving the shift lever and the transmisson's response (at partial and full throttle) is extremely slow for any vehicle... much less for a sport sedan. Currently, shifting around 3500RPM is required to prevent hitting the rev limiter under a full throttle 1st to 2nd gear shift.
This is very disappointing and I don't believe Infiniti designed engine's rev limiter to make up for slow transmission response

Re: Periodic problem with auto trans response
i have a coupe6MT but i think i can help you.....have you tried disconnecting the battery overnight? This will reset the ECU and will give you crisper shifting.
(The ECU "learns" how you drive, so if you've been driving like a granny for a while, then its best to reset the ecu completely)

Re: Periodic problem with auto trans response
This is a little different than others have been complaining about and you should have the dealer check it out.
FYI, my auto at full throttle in manual mode requires me to shift at 6k so as not to hit the limiter. This is the general consensus so far from other owners. I consider this slow but yours is REALLY slow.
Keep us posted if the dealer fixes it with a reprogram of the tranny ECU.

Re: Periodic problem with auto trans response
Yeah, I also have no problem shifting at 6000 rpms in any gear at wide open throttle. I can go 6200 with the taller gears. Mine will also drop from 5th to 3rd in "Drive" if I kick it all the way in and am not going too fast for 3rd.
Sounds like you might have a unique problem.

I have the 5AT and do not experience what you describe. I have
learned thru this board that the 5AT "learns" shift patterns from
previous driving. If you reset the computer, this "learned" behavior
is forgotten and the shifting returns to crips shifts. Try this: disconnect
the negative terminal of the battery for 12-14 hours. Reconnect
and enjoy the 5AT. Good luck and let us know what happens!
God I love this car!

he said that he's tried it to no avail
print out what people have wrote on this forum and show it to your infiniti service advisor to prove to them that it is a problem and not just your imagination
