Noise Only When It Is Cold

My 2005 manual G35 coupe makes a noise during the first 1 or 2 minutes when it is cold outside. It sounds similiar to the sound when the wind moans due to a leaky door or window seal, not a whisling sound but more of a lower frequency. It starts when I go above 15mph, and goes away after a minute or so. This happens only when it is freezing or colder. It seems to come from the outside on the bottom rear half of the car. It is definitely not a leaky seal.

My service department took the car for 2 days and drove it when cold a couple of times, but they were not able to duplicate the sound. I picked it up, but have heard the sound twice since then. At first they thought it was the fuel pump, so they replaced it. But the sound remained. It does not change with engine RPM's, but only with the mph. Once it goes away, it stays away until the next time the G35 has been sitting in cold weather.

Has anyone experienced this and found the problem?

Yea, it kind of sounds like an air leak. This was covered in a thread about a week ago.

I have an 05' too. My back seat started rattling last night and it was cold. I also heard couple noises on the passenger side too in the past few days. I hope it's not gonna get worse. noises on our G is so normal. A little disspointed for a 40K car.

Yeah I have the exact same sound as you. You desribed it perfectly. Happens only when it is pretty cold. Mine is an '03. I was starting to think the sound might be coming from the tranny but it has since warmed up and I don't hear it anymore.

I also have that exact sound you describe and seems to be from the rear left side. I think it sounds a cross between a tire roar and low pitch wind whistle. I have it when the car sits for a number of days and/or when it is colder out. It is somewhat sporadic too in that it doesn't always happen when it sits. The noise will go away after driving from 5 to 15 minutes.

Dealer has not been able to duplicate sound but put a rubber gasket on the muffler deflector thinking that would solve it. It didn't.

i had the same sound...the techs changed out the lower weather strips between the door and fender areas...it seems when it gets cold it shrinks alot letting in air...when car drives around and warms up it expands to normal size
