New Tranny Already!
Why do so many asian cars come with weak a$$ tranny's? My last car was a integra and the transmission on that was a POS. I had it rebuilt once. Then before i sold the car, like a year later, it was going out again. I mean the sounds of gears grinding has got to be the nastiest thing on the planet. So the transmission on my brand new 2005 6mt coupe just went out. i have like 2000 miles on that bad boy and it just crapped out big time. when shifting from 1st to 2nd, the gears grind everytime i am reving above 5k. Not to mention it makes rattling noises when driving slowly over speed bumps and hitting pot holes. so i am like WTF???!!! this is what i am paying so much money for every month! I'm thinking, OK, that was the integra but NOT MY G! The Next thing i do is i call Miller Infinit in SoCAL to make a appointment and bring my car in. It's so funny cause i got their phone number saved in my cell phone so that i can call them at anytime. They tell me to bring my car in early in the moring to take it out for a test drive with the lead technician. I go there, do my thing and show the guy whats wrong with my car. On the way back to the dealership, the guy is driving my car and i start shooting the S**T with him. so i asked him why are these trannies so flimsy? kinda hinting that i know other g35's have the same problem. So the guy starts to spill the story of a life time. he tells me that when the car was first designed it was intened to be a weekend driver for rich people. the tranny was not supposed to be used for all the hard driving and racing that people actually do. He told me all day long people bring in their 6mt's with transmission problems. He said the top to reasons people bring in there G35's for service is the tranny and the 03-04 brakes on the older model G's. So we finally arrive at the dealership and he tells me their gonna put a new transmission in my car. SWEET i said to my self!!! I was glad they didn't try to shaft me and not do it for free. I read some real horror stories on this site from other memebrs about ghe. I'm kinda tired of driving the g35 sedan loaner they gave me though!!! I miss my coupe
sigh.
sigh.
with ur new tranny try not to go all the way up 5k rpm when shifting, the rattling and grinding in 2nd is something we all just need to live with cause thats the way they designed our tranny. good luck with ur new tranny and hopefully it doesn't crap out on u again.
I think the technician was blowing smoke up your @$$. This same tranny is shared by the sedan, coupe, and 350z. There is now way that such a tranny was ever designed to be "used by rich guys driving on the weekends." Are there tranny problems with these cars? Absolutely. But that line he fed you is just absurd.

It is dissappointing to hear about the existing problems with this tranny. 6 updates and they still can't get it right. I think it's time to sign a contract with Tremec and just put the Viper/Cobra/F-Body/Vette T56 6MT in the G/Z. Clearly Nissan can't design a reliable version of the 6MT. They outsourced the 5AT from JATCO. Maybe it's time to do the same with 6MT? The T56 can handle 500wtq, is light weight, and best of all it's pretty reliable and doesn't make odd sounds classified as "normal".
I had the same problem w/ my tranny, however I just lived with it for about a month and viola, it went away. I'm a firm believer that this tranny just gets better w/ mileage. Use some hybrid redline fluid and it's even better.

I found this statement interesting though:
10/2005 ......AICHI presented its latest 6-speed manual transmission (MT) as used in the Nissan 350Z. http://www.transmission-symposium.co...essrelases.htm

Since the Nissan 6MT isn't listed on their product list, I can only assume they are working with Nissan to oversee the design or something along those lines.

i am hearing some noises and the tech at miller said that my 6mt was pinging. ran some injector cleaner and octane booster and it still makes the noise, but not as often. what kind of noise did your trannies start making when you first noticed. my father seems to think it is low on gear oil. noise starts on hard accl in 1st and 2cd gear around 4k rpm's.
when you say "crapped out on me big time" what does that mean? how do you know when to get the tranny changed under warranty? I have never owned a manual transmission before, so i don't know when something is grinding or if something is not normal. I know the 1-2 shift is a pain in the ****. But i don't baby it. In my automatics i would floor it and the tranny would downshift and shift at redline. That's the way i drive the manual. Now i am not supposed to take it above 5K? seems like bs. I'd rather get the tranny replaced while its still under warranty, than baby it and hap poop out after warranty runs out. 5K? c'mom the thing is ment to go to 7k. and with the TS alot of people have that raised.
We should be able to shift from 1st to 2nd above 5k RPM especially if the redline is at 7.2k.
I've noticed that it's hard to shift from 1st to 2nd first thing in the morning when the temperature's in the 30's or low 40's. It's fine after I've driven around for a while and the transmission gets warm. I just try not to force my shifts in any gear at any time. You don't need to force the shifts especially if the revs match the gear and speed.
I'm considering using synthetic transmission fluid next spring. I think it should help.
