I've noticed that it's hard to shift from 1st to 2nd first thing in the morning when the temperature's in the 30's or low 40's. It's fine after I've driven around for a while and the transmission gets warm. I just try not to force my shifts in any gear at any time. You don't need to force the shifts especially if the revs match the gear and speed.

I'm considering using synthetic transmission fluid next spring. I think it should help.

I would be VERY surprised if Nissan wasn't using synthetic transmission fluid stock.
