Transmission Problem, '04 AT, please help

Hey guys...

On my '04 AT (18k) when in manual shift mode:
I shift from 2nd to 3rd between 2900-4100 RPM, about medium throttle, I HEAR and FEEL a "clunk", not huge like the dang transmission is dropping off the car, but not as smooth as any other shifts.....

Anyone else have this problem?
Or any info to share with me?

I found that too on my coupe when I shifted too early for the throttle I gave it. Shifting later and at a higher rpm was fine.
Does it shift smoothly in Auto mode? It it does, then you're probably shifting at the wrong time.

Are you easing up on the gas?
I found it happens then.

i get that on my 05 when going from 2-3 its like a thud/clunk sound. I get that in auto mode but only time to time.

I do have to note that my tranny broke down at 2k miles.

I think when you are in 2nd it wants you to rev it out to 5k because at mid 4s i get the clunk and above 5 nothing ... just a smooth shift.

Ask your dealer about the Transmission Control Unit

The 2-3 AT hard shift is very commonly mentioned. No idea why it's designed that way, but it does appear to be by design.

I have an 04 AT Coupe and it also hard shifts depending on the throttle position and rpm.

Better a hard shift, than a missed shift - so I'm not complaining...

04 AT here too and clunk when shifting. I figured it was the automatic clutch just releasing hard, if automatic clutches work the same as manual. Also, I thought maybe if the clutch is releasing hard the tires are giving a lot of resistance at a low RPM. I figure when you rev it high the clutch rubs more and gives you a smoother power transfer.
