Transmission problems?

I have the 6-speed manual and when I start the car, especially in the morning, I sometimes, very briefly, hear a grinding noise (for 1/2 second or so). It doesn't happen all the time, but when I hear it, it's exactly when the engine starts up.

Does anybody else have experienced or heard of this problem ?

Thanks.

VQ's have a timing chain that can dry after sitting overnight and cause a momentary rasping/rattling on startup in the morning. No worries.

Usually timing chains don't make noise though unless the chain guides or tensioners are worn.

Grinding Noise

I have it to. I just noticed it this morning. Its pretty loud in first gear at around 2000 rpm also in reverse at around the same rpm. I only have 3850 miles on my car its very strange.

Thanks everybody ! I guess it seems to be normal, although I never heard this type of noise on any other stick-shift cars. Plus, it's not happening on a regular basis, it's more the exception rather than the rule .... Interesting !

Addaiaway, I only get this noise right when I turn the key and the engine starts up ... it's not when I'm in reverse or at 2K RPM .... you may have a different problem.
