new tranny = noise and power loss
new tranny = noise and power loss
As the title of this thread suggests, I just had a new tranny installed at 38k miles. (part # 32010 CD008)
I got the car back yesterday, and everything seemed ok. Once it was warmed up though, I started noticing this nasty noise in first gear. I'm sure we're all familiar with the typical clutch noise, the sound of rocks rolling around when it's idling. Well this is a much louder, much more exaggerated sound, though similar. It only seems to happen between 2k-4k when accelerating in first gear...
Also, there seems to be a HUGE loss in power across the entire RPM range.
The service writer of course ccouldnt hear the noise, and claims the car pulls fine. But the bottom line is, I know my car, and its slower and noisier than before the tranny swap.
Any ideas how to proceed? Or what the problem may be?

I kicked around the idea, but per the dealership, there is no break-in period. Of course, they are quite often incorrect...
Even if that is the cause for heavy power loss (which I highly doubt), that still doesnt explain the wretched noise in first gear.

Update:
Met with the tech that installed the tranny. He claims not to hear the noise either. Yet when I drove into the parking garage at work this morning, co-workers asked if they swapped the engine for a diesel while they were replacing the tranny. It sounds like a F'in diesel MAC truck driving down the road.
