Techno ECU update

i have a 2003.5 6MT sedan with an Technosquare ECU installed. today, i went to them and we dynod the car with both the stock program and the new TS program. Unfortunantly for us 6MT people, our intakes and exhausts are sooo restrictive, that there is very little to no gains in HP or TQ. We still get the new 7100 rpm redline which allows us to shift at the optimum 6900 rpm, have no top speed, and get better gas mileage, but just no gains unless we upgrade to better exhaust and better intake.

The AT sedan got about 15-20 hp becuase it has a de-tuned ecu compared to the 6MT sedan. i suppose it is a plus for us 6MT people.

BTW, if anyone were to upgrade with new exhaust and intake, you would theoretically be getting the same hp as a modded 350z as TS is running the same program.

one last thing, the specialist there, Tadashi, advised me that all of the aftermarket intakes are in fact useless in a real driving situation. the best bet would be to use the 350z tube with a K&N drop in filter. or maybe the stillen high flow box.

after i get my exhaust and retuen my ecu, i will definitely post the results.

oh one my BTW, they may be, most likely, be developing a turbo for the G. it is a prototype on the Z already making 400 hp at the wheels. niiiiccceeee..

Re: Techno ECU update

So, are we to believe that the 5/AT will see more improvement
over the 6/MT? Does this aplly to the coupe's also?

I'm still a little skeptical about this whole ECU upgrade thing.

I found this link that talks about the ecu for a 350z. The programs of the Z & G have to be somewhat similar.
It's an interview with a nismo tech.

Re: Techno ECU update

Who else has the Technosquare ECU upgrade?

Please share your impressions and include Sedan or Coupe - AT or MT.

So far, I've noted three guys have the upgrade.

nuttyprof - 6MT Sedan

G35HP - ? Coupe?

Gurgen - 5AT Sedan

Re: Techno ECU update

Now this is very interesting that the 5AT gets way more gains than the 6MT from the ecu upgrade. I makes me ponder if nissan made the automatic slower on purpose by retarding the fuelmap etc to make the stick more appealing to "true" car enthusiasts. I wonder if both the 6MT and th 5AT would have any difference in power after each getting the technosquare ecu treatment. If they would be about the same than that means that the auto tranny is damn good.

Re: Techno ECU update

DaveO,

Add me to the list as of next week. I'm sending my ECU off on Monday and should have it back Wednesday. I have a baseline dyno too so we'll be able to see my overall gains. Since the base dyno here's what I've added:

Injen CAI
UR Pulley
Grounding Kit

Non-engine related:
Tein Flex Damper Kit
EDFC for Tein
Cusco Sways

Along with the ECU upgrade, next week I'm also adding the Stillen Cross-drilled/Slotted rotors, and I'm on the list for the Stillen Dual Exhaust that should be out soon for the sedan.

I'll keep you guys updated.

Re: Techno ECU update

"This doesn't make sense. I wasnt aware that the 6mt and 5at's had different states of tune. Why is it that they can get 15-20 hp at the top out of a coupe but not a 6mt sedan? Did they check the a/f ratio with a broadband 02 sensor?"

yes, the AT and 6MT have different states of tune. the AT even comes with a silver ECU, and the 6MT comes with a black. the 350 and the coupe come with black also. and yes, they did attach the O2 sensor.

"to stop the need to reset the computer to keep the computer from retarding my potential HP gains. If this hold true then the upgrade is definitely worth the money in my eyes."

ive had my chip in for a couple of weeks and it definitely holds true. there was no loss in gains felt by my butt dyno as there was before the chip.

"I found this link that talks about the ecu for a 350z. The programs of the Z & G have to be somewhat similar.

the new program that TS is putting into the 350 and the g's are all the same. except for the 6MT sedan, in which he did some adjustment to my ecu as our exhausts are too restrictive and do not benefit as much as the 350z does by adjusting the A/F mix. emphasis is on "as much" becuase nissan did origianlly program the A/F mix at the top to be very rich.

Re: Techno ECU update

Was surpirised to hear this guys.

Danny and Todashi DID tell me that my gains will be a lot greater than the 6MT ones. But I was under the impression that ALL sedan's are detuned. I guess NOT. I am beginning to believe that the 6MT sedans are better tuned, especially after hearing about a magazine review rating the 6MT sedan at 5.4-5.6 sec 0-60. That's a good 0.6-0.7 sec faster than te rated 5AT speed. I don't htink the difference is quite that great, but there must one.

If I had to guess, Tadashi did not have to make very many mixture adjustments, right? That's where I think the gain is coming from. But I would still expect some gains because of the more aggressive timings that he put on.... Not sure what to say... My car got a lot faster after the ECU upgrade, and just EXPLODED after the Crawford/ECU combo. I am easily in the mid 5's now.

One thing that I do not understand, is the statement above regardingthe sedan's having "...too restrictive of exhaust compared to the coupe and the Z..." What about my car? I got a lot of benefit with the upgrade (over 20HP) and I have the same restrictive exhaust as the 6MT sedan?!

Now, I did put on high flow cats, a y-pipe, and a resonator (see my sig below). THe performace gain from these mods COMBINED is not nearly as great as the one from the ECU/plenum upgrade. So I am not sure about the extent of the exhaust's involvement in hindering performance. Unless it'slike a "6MT thing" , I doubt it.

Re: Techno ECU update

i think both the 6MT and the AT will benefit a lot from upgrading the exhaust to one much less restrictive. the reason the AT gained so much more is becuase it had an detuned ECU compared to the 6MT. this means that at stock, the 6MT would be putting out more power than the AT.

Re: Techno ECU update

makes perfect sense to me. THere has got to be a reason why the 6mt sedan scored 5.6 sec 0-60 in the automibile magazine's roundup.

But, I am there with my ecu upgrade for sure!

Re: Techno ECU update

Driveability isn't affected, is it? Is the idle the same, etc.? I am not familiar with Techno as a company, but I am assuming they are the best for ecu upgrades? I have a 5AT, and I am seriously considering this mod. It is my daily driver, and I want it to be reliable. From your experiences, would you suggest this mod for my particular application?

ABsolutely, positively highly recommended. No drivability issues at all. In fact, it is the only mod that you can do to your car that is absolutely maintenance-free.
