Oil cooler(s).

This isn't really a how to, just posting in case anyone needed an idea about where to place your coolers.

Tranny and power steering coolers (tranny in front). This would be on the left side of the radiator. Had to relocate the horns.

I felt that it was pretty important to keep at least one half of the radiator relatively free of obstruction.

And for the oil cooler.

I know what you're thinking. How the hell is that oil cooler going to get any air flow? My solution:

It's amazing what you can do with a putty knife and a heat gun.

I used B&M coolers of various sizes all remarkably affordable and available from Summitracing.com. My next trick will be braided silicone lines now that everything is pretty well fitted.

Have had a few PMs about part numbers so here ya go.

Tranny BMM-70268 11" x 7 1/2" x 3/4"

Power steering BMM-70264 6" x 11" x 1 1/2"

Oil BMM-70266 8" x 11" x 1 1/2"

Note: The tranny and PS coolers are kits. They include hose and mounting hardware. The oil cooler doesn't. You'll have to get 1/2 inch hose and fittings. Brass fittings are readily available at your local home depot.

Or you can get this BMM-70270 kit which has the same size oil cooler but you'll end up with a GM sandwich adapter that you don't need.

I just marked everything out with a sharpie and a ruler before hand. Make sure that the marks that you make for the slits are slightly larger than the putty knife (or piece of metal) that you are using is wide. A thin strip of sheet metal would work well also just make sure all of the sharp edges are rounded off. I think that I set the slits about an inch and a half apart from each other vertically. Then I dremeled the slits that I marked.

Jam your tool into the slit (that didn't sound right ) then take your heat gun to the plastic focusing on both right and left sides of the area and not so much the middle. Took me and my heat gun about 15 seconds to get it pretty pliable without melting it. Bend it in whichever direction you want it to be hold it for a few seconds to give a chance to cool off and set and there ya go.

That's badass. Nice handy work with the slits. Do you know what your oil temps before and after the cooler?

Could you mount a smaller oil cooler where you mounted the tranny cooler? Can it be vertical like that? I had heard that oil coolers needed to have in/out both on the bottom.

I've never heard of the oil cooler having to be horizontal. Interesting, I'll have to do some research.

The oil cooler oddly enough doesn't seem to be helping much though it is important to remember that it's about 20 degrees warmer at the track now that when I ran without the oil cooler. More to come.
