Water Wetter

Does anyone use a water wetter type product in their cooling system?

I've been using Redline's Water Wetter since they starting made it for glycol/water mixtures. There are now similar products available. I saw "Tow Cool" in an autoparts store the other day.

For those who are not familiar with this type product, it improves the heat transfer properities of the coolant. This lowers the engine temperature which in turn prevents the knock sensors from retarding the timing (and fuel?) as soon as they normally would.

Re: Water Wetter

I used to use it on my 300ZXTT. Red Line is a great product and it did what it claimed. I recommend anyone with FI cars to use it.

Re: Water Wetter

I've used it on my Cobras before. The one it made the most difference on was my 1994 Cobra with 11lbs of boost from a Powerdyne. It did make a difference in coolant temps.

Yes, it's an additive. I paid around $7.00 for a bottle of Redline Water Wetter at Pep Boys. It comes in a small (8oz?) bottle. I know of no downside to using this product. I do, however changeout my coolant yearly.

Re: Water Wetter

I tried the stuff on my Jeep Cherokee and I saw no improvement so I stopped using it.

Re: Water Wetter

Well then maybe it's worth a shot - i cant imagine the car actually cooling fast enough during powerful surges of gas but perhaps when it hasn't been pushed hard for a few mins??? I guess I'll try it and find out.

Re: Water Wetter

Any testing or empirical evidence this actually runs the car cooler...i can't imagine relying on the analog guage - hope to see a difference anyway.

Re: Water Wetter

Redline Water Wetter was initially developed for water only racing applications. They brought out a second product for glycol/water applications sometime later.

It's had a long successful record in many high performance cars.

I suggest checking out their website to see if the empirical evidence you seek is available there.

Re: Water Wetter

DaveO, I've used WW for years (including my G) and like it. Red Line has a fine product line.

Re: Water Wetter

gsedanman,

Like you GSM, I've used Redline products for many years and have found them to be very good.

I took this picture at 2:16 PM today (it got hotter around 3:30). I was pulling back into the garage after a few full bore ECU test runs to double the posted highway limit with the AC on. No pre-detonation and the temp gauge didn't budge.

Re: Water Wetter

Dave you could get the same effect replacing the thermostat if you're concerned about the temp. Or just run open all the time.
