Just for sh*ts and giggles, I decided to put my car in neutral at about 60mph on the highway, and guess what--it stalled. Not an earth-shattering post, but I just figured I would let you guys know. I hadn't seen anyone else post this about an A/T sedan with the Stillen/350Z tube. (I have been reading all the posts about the Stillen).

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention-- I tried it again about 5 minutes later, and again 10 minutes later and it didn't do it either time. Obiously this doesn't really affect us AT owners, but I figured since the MT guys have been having this problem, I would try it.

What happens to your G35 when this happens? You loose
power steering and brakes. Do you just turn the key to
restart? This sound pretty scarey to me.

Why would you pick a time like going 60mph down the highway to try to stall your car?
Try driving it off an overpass and see if it stalls on the way down, while you're testing.

yeh.. still don't understand why anyone would put their car in neutral at high speeds.. it's like you want you car to stall..
if it only happens when you put it in neutral, then don't put it in neutral.. simple as that..

Has anyone tried this in a sedan w/out any sort of intake mod? I wonder if whether it would happen either way.

i dont understand why the car would stall. ive had my intake on for a couple months now. and it has never stalled...but i hvae the K&N typhoon intake. the only one. muahahaa.
as for putting it into neutral, if you drive a 6MT, everytime you shift, the car goes into neutral. its not a choice of whether or not to put it in neutral.

Why would anyone dump the clutch and coast? I'll tell you why. Cause I'm want to slow down slowly, by one, not using engine braking and two,.............. I'm in no hurry!, so why put wear on the brakes. Hey, chances are I just did something that just burnt up a whole bunch of fuel, so I'm gonna coast a make up a lil bit of it.
Some on asked if they'd also tried something like coasting before at speed. Why yes I have. When it first came out that one or two Injen owners were stalling at around 80mph when they dumped the clutch. I went out in my Injen equipped car and did the clutch dump at 80mph over and over, then I did it at 100mph a couple of time. Absolutely nothing happened. And as I've mentioned before I have even dumped the clutch at 145mph twice and coasted to 80mph, same thing, absolutely nothing happened, tach didn't flinch.

Guys, guys... I was just pointing out that the car did stall when I put it in neutral. If you read my post, you would see that I said that this doesn't affect AT drivers because we don't put it in neutral at high speeds. (Shouldn't really affect MT guys either). I just wanted to see if the AT did it as well, because I have read that it is happening to the MT guys. I was on the highway late at night, and there was no one around. It is not dangerous, unless you don't know what you are doing. I kept the wheel straight, and as soon as it happened, I restarted the car in neutral, then put it back into drive... No big deal. I just think this is interesting, that is all.

why did this happen? could it be the install? the MAF sensor. too much air perhaps. need to get a new ECU to even out the mixture.

Probably. The engine (ECU) probably isn't used to drawing in that much air, and after having a load placed on the engine, and then quickly dropping rpm's, the air fuel mix is off (too much air). That would be my guess.

Well....I put my 5AT in neutral last night doing 45 mph........

No. I did it at 60mph. I haven't tried it since, and the two times I did it immediately after the first, it didn't stall. Maybe it only needs to do it once for the ECU to learn to correct it??

Hate to bring up an old thread, but I put in a Stillen CAI, and now I can consistently stall my car by going at speeds above 60 mph and stepping on the clutch and letting the rpm's drop all the way down. This is actually very dangerous and I almost crahsed once when it happened to me during a turn.
Anyone have anymore experience with this? I will contact Stillen tomrorow to see if they have fixed this problem and will offer me an exchange for a newer model of CAI.
