My friend with a 1.8T Jetta sends his used oil to some lab and gets a report back on how his engine is doing. He started using Amsoil, and the report stated that this or that has improved.
I was just wondering if anybody has done this here? I'm thinking of sending a sample of my old oil to see what's up.

 

Very very common. Blackstone labs is one facility that does and they have great service.

Have you determined an approximate number of miles after an oil change at which sampling data suggests that the oil should be changed? What type of oil do you use?

 

They told me last time I had it analyzed to go for 9000 miles between changes. That was using Mobil 1 5W/30 regular. I recently switched to the Extended Performance and put over 10000 miles on the oil. Im going to send the sample in on Monday. Ill post the results when they send them to me.
