Fast ? about the stupid dipstick!

I've got years of experience over-tightening things and otherwise busting them by applying too much force, so I've come to ask before I act.

I was going to check the oil-level and found the dipstick hesitant to come out. I realized that my big hand can't really fit down to the base of the dipstick, where it slides back in, so (with the flex of the dipstick) I can't tell if it pulls directly out toward the side (driver fender) or if it has to be rotated forward slightly before releasing. The manual wasn't very helpful.

I've got someone with a small set of hands here with me that can help, but I want to confirm the proper way to remove it before giving it any muscle.

When I tried removing mine, I had a little trouble as well. But trust me, just apply that hefty force, and it will come out. Pull it out directly straight towards your body. Use leverage though, hold on to the dipstick unit, and with strength pull on the yellow....

Taking it out is tough, but wait till you have to put it back in. That's the fun part.

Thanks. That did it. Looks like it could be 1/2 to 1 qt. low. Getting ready for the 2nd change. First change the mechanic said it didn't look like any oil was lost, but I'm thinking after the MREV, header/cats I might be burning some now. It started sounding a bit low or in need of a change. Looks like my ears were right.

And putting it back in does suck, but at least I don't have to fit my hand down by the entry-point.
