Oil temp and better cooling
I was at Gingerman this past Monday and the water temp was hovering just under hot on several laps. This made me think about the oil temp. Has anyone placed an oil temp in the car? Also any suggestions for cooling the car better? I understand that it was very hot that day (mid 90's), but I am giving thought to a Toyo radiator and a oil cooler.
Additional cooling is almost always a good idea, not only for the engine, but for the tranny too.
As oil temperature increases, viscosity decreases and can reach a point where it is not providing the necessary protection.
There is a potential problem with installing an oil cooler on the sedan however. I would install an oil cooler right now if I could, but I haven't yet found a solution to the problem.
The installation of an oil cooler typically involves installing a spacer between the oil filter and its mounting plate. That spacer diverts the oil to the cooler and back and then routes it back into the engine. The problem is insufficient clearance for the oil filter after the spacer is installed.
One of the major manufacturers of oil coolers is Flex-A-Lite. I understand that they make the cooler that Stillen sells. They are wholesale only, but if you check their site, you can find a long list of retailers selling their coolers. A little research will reveal that their coolers car be purchased for about half the price of the big name kit, but they don't offer braided hoses.
They told me that the spacer they provide is 1 1/2 inches thick. They claim that this will not fit the sedan.
If anyone reading this knows of an install the will fit the sedan without major modification, please post the information.

I am going to post a new thread and see what we find.
