Double-punch technique?

For auto trannys only...

Anyone here ever experiment with the "double punch" technique? As in, hitting the gas-peddle as quickly as possible twice... punch, punch and hold... vs just flooring it? I learned this over at the Cadillac forum I used to frequent and I noticed a huge jump in performance in my mom's CTS. It would kick down an extra gear vs. just flooring it AND it responded quicker.

I noticed the same result in my dad's Mazda6, however in my old Accord it didn't work.

Anyone here ever try it on their G (or other rides?) If not, try it and post up any differences you notice. If you have done it, have you noticed any differences?

It seems to work on some cars, but not on others. And for obvious reasons, only in automatics (and tiptronics for cars like ours where it'll downshift on its own even in manual mode...)

It does work,
seems to decrease the amount of time it takes for the tranny to shift down.
You may have noticed that somtimes when you punch it, the car doesn't always downshift or takes quite a long time to downshift.
I've found that by double punching it, it downshifts much quicker.

I always use the tiptronic. Click, Click, floor it. It works every time.

I have, but that was before resetting my ECU, and it wasn't all that noticable compared to the 6 and the CTS. Compared to my old Accord, though, I definately could notice a difference. I reset my ECU last night, so I'm going to try it again and see if I notice it even more.

I've noticed if you drive like a granny, the downshift takes forever. But drive agressively and the downshifts become a bit quicker
