Best technique to launch 5AT?
Best technique to launch 5AT?
What is the best technique to launch a 5at? Im hitting 15's right now (very bad) and wanna get into the 14's, so I am taking suggestions. Perhaps im not doin somethin right. I torque brake to 2.5k rpm and let it rip on mm. Include any prepping you do to the car as well (lowering tire pressure, etc.) Thx

Re: Best technique to launch 5AT?
i've heard its better to leave it in D and just floor it... the auto will shift at redline everytime where as MM is still prone to human error.... as far as torque braking to 2.5k is concerned, if you're doing that often, i'd invest in some sort of tranny cooler or else you're auto isn't gonna last long... a few people on the forum have done a Torque Converter upgrade and valve body upgrade for a higher stall speed and faster shifting... not sure what else you can do besides adding more mods.
Re: Best technique to launch 5AT?
Based on my experience manual mode is quicker than if you left it in D. I've tried launching at various rpm's, anywhere from
idle to 2500 and the most success i had was between 1200
& 1500 rpm. My best run was 14.44 @ 97.39. My best advice
to you is to try different rpm launches to see what works best
for you. Lowering rear tire pressure might help a little bit with
traction if your spinning. Keep in mind there are many variables that can effect your times at the track; (weather, humidity, barometer, elevation)
Have you done an ECU reset, if not than this might be your biggest problem.

Re: Best technique to launch 5AT?
I have seem to launch better without the torque braking. I do like the manual mode though. You can shift at higher revs. In full auto it seems to shift between 6200-6400 rpms. I like to run it out to 6500-6600.

Re: Best technique to launch 5AT?
In my experience, best times in the 5AT when hot out seem to come w/o brake torquing. Best times when cold out seem to come with brake torquing. Both in MM mode. 1st gear in auto-mode will often shift @ 6150 RPM. You want to wind it out in 1st to take advantage of the higher RPM's in 2nd gear, which is where the car really starts to grind. Tranny cooler is a good idea in any auto even for normal driving.
