Fuel Economy

Hey guys! I just got my G on Friday! It's been a great weekend taking it out and driving it around and I already have about 150 miles or so on it. However, the fuel economy seems to be pretty bad. I average a 13 mpg. Now is this because of the engine being new and it will improve after I break it in? Or is it a defect in the car? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!

Re: Fuel Economy

Wait till it breaks in. When I first got my car, I got 12 mpg, then at about 1200 miles, I was getting 16 mpg, now at about 2500 miles, I'm getting 19 mpg....I'm hoping to get to about 20-21 mpg.

Re: Fuel Economy

12,000 miles on our car. My wife and I just returned from a Labor Day weekend trip. Lots of highway driving, most of it way over 80 MPH, fair amount of tootling around at 25 -> 50 MPH, and we still got 22 MPG.

Try a tankful of highway driving at reasonable speeds : 65-80 MPH. Most get 21-27 MPH.

Hugely powerful yet with a liquid cat-like elegance. The car has it too.

Re: Fuel Economy

i agree with the above. I have 12000 miles on my 6 speed and get 25 and change according to the nav at 82mph. Just have a z tube, k&n panel filter, and mobil1.

Re: Fuel Economy

I just hit the 1200 mile break-in point on my new Coupe on Sunday. My mileage averaged 20.18 MPG and that was about 40/60% city/hwy miles. The freeway miles were at speeds of about 75-80 MPH also. I'm pleased so far.

Re: Fuel Economy

Hey, I'm at about 190 miles now, and still running about 12-13 mpg. Friend says I should check it out as there might be a problem in the compression. Is it normal to have that low of a mileage during break-in period? Or should I really check it out?

Re: Fuel Economy

I just went over 200 miles and I'm averaging about 15mpg, it gets better the more the engine breaks in.

Re: Fuel Economy

Try a different pair of shoes. Some shoes are known to have lead weights in them....LOL Mine was the same way. It will get better. I have 1500 miles now and I get around 20mpg on mixed driving.

Re: Fuel Economy

I get 22mpg.

I think you're getting 13mpg's because you probably live where it's quite "hilly". Umm... SF?

Re: Fuel Economy

Yeah theres lots of hills but on the main roads, its usually straightaways. Now I'm getting less than 12mpg about apprx. 11.5 or so. It's starting to worry me as I have just crossed the 200 mile mark. So....yeah any suggestions or other inputs?
