Car still pinging
The car is *still* frigging pinging. The catch can helped, but it wasn't a solution. There is an apparent corelation between the level of oil in the catch can and the amount of pinging; but even when it's empty, there's still pinging.
The knock occurs at part throttle, half throttle, full throttle, every gear, all across the rpm. I can be running in 3rd gear at 4k rpms, at approximately 20% throttle, and if I jump on it, it will knock. If I'm already at 50% throttle, then go to the floor, it will knock.
I'm sure my mods haven't helped, but they're not the cause. It knocked when it was stock.
I don't think it's an a/f problem, or fuel pressure problem. It will knock even in the upper rpms while WOT. And I've confirmed on the dyno that I'm running high 12's. It's either gas, or timing. I *always* use 93, and I've gotten the same amount of knock on Chevron gas as I have the cheapo brands.
I know there's even more power left in the car. I'm sure that if Sharif could get a hold of it, I'd see some pretty good gains. But I think I'm gonna wait until the accessport becomes available, or uprev brings something to market.

I wouldn't really call it either. If anything, it sounds like rustling leaves, if that makes any sense.

How certain are you that this really is pinging or detonation? Do you have someone in the area that can log the ECU and watch the timing and such? I thought I had some pinging too and then it turned out to be a loose piece of metal in the passenger side seat belt mechanism.

Pasta - I've considered the plugs. I may as well do it.
Dave/Jeff - I don't know anybody with any tools locally that can log the ecu. I had borrowed a techtom a few months back, and I watched the timing, and it didn't appear to have any odd patterns. In fact, other than shifting, the timing between my car and Cheryl's car were very close.

rusting leaves dawg? I know my boy's G had a deep ping also but it was his mods.
"rustling" leaves... ...as in a pile of leaves blowing around.
Mine only started after the MREV, Headers, Cats were installed... ...so some of the low-RPM noise may be the added airflow pumping through the headers, which are hardly as soundproof as the OEM units.
Likewise, I wish I was near (closer than 3-4 hours) a good tuning shop to make sure.
