Noise while going 30 to 40 mph

I have been having an intermittent noise while going 30 to 40 mph in my coupe. It has been going on now for 2 weeks. Took it into the dealer today and they could not hear it after 3 test drives. The noise sounds like you are dragging a chain... and It appears to be coming from the front. Anyone ever hear something like this coming from their coupe???? Also its usally when I am not even pressing the gas, but rather just rolling along. Any help is appreciated.

6 speed or Auto?

I have had some rattles from the rear when I hit bumps but nothing like dragging a chain. They dealer took care of my axel clicking but could not find the babies rattle sound that I am hearing. Prank: It could drive someone nuts if you taped a baby rattle the undercarriage of the car.

Its a 2004 6spd.... Just picked it up from the dealer service and they said just try to bring it by next time I hear it... My luck I'll never be close. It happens 4/5 times a week... Its not very loud but just enough to drive you crazy when your driving with the windows down! ARggh!

Unless something has fallen into the engine bay somewhere and is rattling, the only thing I can think of that even comes close to that noise is a faulty wheel bearing.
That shouldn't be hard for the dealer to verify.

Got the rattle here

I have taken my G to the stealership and had them put it on the lift, but of course they couldn't hear anything; most likely due to the fact that the suspension is unloaded and sets up different stresses and tensions for resonance freqs. I took the G out with the Tech, and then later on with the Master Tech, and could point out the rattle which they actually heard and agreed that there was something amiss. In the end, they sprayed some foam under one of the brackets, and turned the heat shielding differently at the beginning of the exhaust. Didn't eliminate the noise.

The set of conditions for rattle:

Bring the car up to 4000 RPM in second gear. Punch the gas, WOT or close, at 4400 RPM, and up if you keep going, you get a metallic rattle, not the tranny or anything, like a chain rattle or metal on metal, just from the center of the car under the stickshift area or a little to the driver's side. It isn't as high pitched as I would think heat shielding would be (have an older Camry that has heat shield rattle) but still sounds like something along those lines. A bracket would be a good guess, i.e. thicker metal.

It will sometimes rattle when you take off in 2nd gear at a very low RPM and are giving it a good amount of gas.

I'm having the same EXACT problem as OutGolfn does with the metal dragging noise at 30-40 mph on my manual 04 coupe. It's been happening on and off for the past month but lately it's gotten more apparent. Dealer drove it for 6 miles and heard nothing.. does anyone know what it could be?? Could it be a loose bracket somewhere making that high pitched noise?

I've got the same thing too. 20-30 mph, windows down, in gear or in neutral, I hear a metallic rattle, which is never rythmic but always annoying, coming from underneath my G under the driver side. I haven't put the car up yet but I'm not too excited about it. The chances of finding whatever it is that is making the noise is slim to none. It's like there is a washer, or something to that effect, lose under the car that when the air flow increases under the car so does the rattle. Bumps and/or potholes don't reproduce the rattle. Any of you guys have an idea on what it could be???

So after laying on the ground lightly tapping on everything under my G I could reach, I finally, by dumb luck, found the source of my rattle. Actually, I didn't find anything underneath and so out of frustration I punched the sidewall of my front driver side tire...and the same metallic jingle/rattle that I have been hearing for weeks now was reproduced!!!! Great! Now what? Is this a wheel bearing problem? I am truly ignorant when it comes to car mechanics. Can I fix it? What am I looking at. Any help from you more experienced guys would be a great help.

maybe a brake pad shim? I get a similar noise at lower speeds, and I do think I need new brake pads within 5k... however... you can hardly hear the noise on mine

Here it goes

I had the same problem actually got a new tranny and clutch out the deal but it turned out to be a faulty drive shaft i dont know exactly what the issue was with it but after two weeks in the shop and a new tranny the shop foreman replaced the driveshaft and it did the trick hopefully this works i have a 6spd 04 also
