Cost to build up the G or sell and go another route

For $10K, I could have very fun, clean, fast, and reliable 2nd car.
Adding boost to a G35 the right way will cost a small fortune. The "right way" means a piggy back ecu, lots of tuning, lots of quality gauges/monitoring systems, and strong fuel system. On top of the $5K for the turbo kit, you should budget about $3500 for the electronic gear and tuning. I hardly think it's worth it. Boosting NA cars is a pain and they often spend more time getting worked on at home/shop because of the common annoyances (inconsistent power delivery, funky idle, funky part-throttle operation, sputtering, etc).

Some Hondas and Toyotas get away with running 11.5:1 compressions (that really high for a street engine), but they have very elaborate ECU control and pretty wild compression chambers to shed the excessive heat geneated from the high compression. This VQ has a very wild 12.3:1 compression. It's going to need race gas full time.
People been wanting a NFI option from Nismo, now that come out with something, everyone is complaining... sheesh...
Who you gonna trust ? Backwoods Bolt-ons or Nismo ?
Upon college graduation I was trying to decide between a cobra, lightning or g35.
I ended up with the G because everyone has mustangs and fords interiors are not near as fancy and nice. Plus the G looks soo much cooler than the other two.....
Now im thinking maybe I shoulda gone with either of them, spent the 1k on pulley upgrades and gotten either to about 450 whp

And you don't have to worry about always retuning, sputtering and what the SC is going to do to the engine. Hell 12.3:1 isn't that high. We have guys running 13.1 flat top pistons in small blocks! sheeeeeet...

As for your friends running 13:1 compressions on their small blocks, they've got to be running race gas. Back in musclecar hey-day, muscle cars typically hhigher 11:1 to 13:1 ratios, but they also ran leaded gas that often equaled 102 to 105 octane.

I don't care who you are, it's just a matter of time that you'll want more power if you're car enthusiast! It's like getting punched in the face. How many times you gonna take it before you fight back ? Sorry, by me it's not all show and no go. I gotta at least be doing 4's 0 - 60 and 12's on the street. I get my chain yanked all the time by so many other cars it ain't even funny. And there is no other feeling then the feeling of winning!

Everyone i knew that said they just want the look, eventrually wanted another 100+ hp because every tom dick and ricer harry was wanting to race them. You're only asking for it if you trick out the look of your car and hit the streets, whether it's 1/4 mile or twisties... So, you better have the muscle and or suspension to back it up!
(unless you're just strictly show competition or something, i can understand that...).

Which would not require a tranny upgrade (just clutch), probably only a few engine upgrades, and tires/wheels I can get for 1k(dont care about style just wider).
So 6k for vortech/ST
1-2k for wheels tires
.5-1k for clutch?
So 7-9k + how much of my engine would need upgrade for 350hp.

- Wider tires will help.
- Your stock clutch will hold but go out faster so replace it now if you have the money. (I have a centerforce for sale if you are interested, PM me)
- Your stock internals are fine for those kind of numbers. There are tons of us in that range with no problems.
- The cheapest way to get to that power range is the Vortech. Your car will be like stock up to ~3500rpm and then a rocket after that. The other option is the Stillen which for ~350whp you would need stage 4. It has tons of low end power and starts making boost as soon as you press on the gas because it's a roots blower but 350whp is about the max you will ever get out of it on a dyno. It's a better city driving car (IMO) because you don't have to wait for boost. You can be driving along at 2k rpm, hit the gas and the power is there.
If you decide to go the SC route, there are tons of threads comparing these two kits in the FI section.
